I was monotoring a domain which had went into this state: "domain not locally found, whois must be out of date".
From that point there should be no chance to renew, right? But today I see that they have managed to renew it somehow. How is that possible?
It was only two days left until it should be released...

Maybe, but it is still the old registrant and registrar.
The name expired two years ago.

Was it NSI? Maybe snapnames then?

Happens all the time. Very frustrating but nothing says the registrar can't renew the name.

The real fault is NSI and it's habit of holding names for incredibly long periods of time. Actually the truth is their incredibly inept management of their data base and their desire to hide from their shareholders and analysts just exactly how bad they were hemorraging business.

And so many of you would like to hand them another monopoly to F**k up.

It's conceivable the name was on a special hold due to a court case or something and not renewed in the meantime, then the original owner won... maybe.

Otherwise I'd just chalk it up to the odd things that happen sometimes.

No once you have a large database of names to follow I see this kind of stuff all the time. I'd guesstimate 15 -20 names alone in the last week.:D
