Read an article today at: zdnet.com.au about renting out domain names you own. Has anyone here tried that and if so, good or bad experiences?

Where's the article? I've yet to hear of any registrar or reseller
renting out domain names...

if you will go to: http://zdnet.com.au and then type in
rent names in their search mode you will see the article.
i am sure that there are probablly companies (or should be) out there, not necessarily registrars, who have websites where the
domain owners can list names that they would consider renting out on a annual or semi-annual basis. if not, might be a popular website for some developer in my opinion, with the easiest way for them to make money initially by charging for each listing and/or by subscription sales, etc.

Hi

I rented a domain once, it was "fooddevice.com".

The deal lasted a few months, and after that, they purchased it!

Renting names can be good for the owner, but no so good for the renter.

if you plan on going this route, have a contract or some type of lease agreement.

and make sure that there is some type of 'abuse' clause. misuse of the domain could get it banned from the major search engines, or get it added to an isp spam blacklist. not good.
