Just got another "please justify your asking price" comment from a $60 bidder. Let's see after Sedo Fees (-50) that would leave me with $10.

Nice work genius, does'nt even pay for renewals.

Anyone think of some funny responses?

Here's one that just hit me:

"Please justify your existence."

LOL.

I had an $75 offer for LLL.com in ebay and he says I regged it 10 years ago, so I should sell him for $75.

My recent favorite response is:
I want to invite you to watch the movie Mission Impossible 2009. Offer expires after 1 second.

Or in sedo:
Counter with 5 million, and reply with "This is my final offer."

They come in all the time.

I typically reply,

"Please justify your low offer"

I hate to say this, as this happening is always irritating, but I always bite my tongue and respond with the price I'd really like to have (not ever expect to get). In the back of my mind, I never know if it could be someone that really would like to have it and has the bank account for it but just figured they'd try a low ball first.

...on the other hand, I wonder if some are hoping that if they put enough of these out there some clumsy sap is going to click agree instead of countering their ridiculous offer.

Remember the mIRC "slapping with a large trout"? ...I think I just thought of a new feature for sedo.

Instead of reply, I would just close the process. I did this for one domain.

Happens to me as well. I don't think buyers are always aware of the fees on your end. I just reply and explain that I have owned (and renewed) the name for years, so I would be selling at a loss. Doesn't hurt to include reported sales for comparable domains.
For some buyers it's a way of starting the ball rolling. Offers starting at the mandatory minimum amount of $60 are not very encouraging but you just never know. Sometimes I counteroffer much higher and the price is accepted.

There are buyers that think they are being generous by submitting $61 offers... :)

I have received that "please justify your asking price" from domainers too.

No biggie.

To be honest, I don't understand why sellers would get offended and actually reply rudely to such a mild question and/or a starting offer of $60. They could just be a way to open the door for dialogue or negotiation.

More importantly, there really is no room for lowballing AT ALL if you care to set a minimum offer. But if you allow $60 offers to come through, then deal with them PROFESSIONALLY.

The worst I have done is not responding; I thought that was rude enough.

I upped my min on all names to $400 - it takes out the $60 nonsense on sedo ....but gets me more nonsense e-mails...not sure what is worse, but at least with an e-mail lowballer...I can research who they are.

Sometimes the wanting to justify your price message is because the prospect can be an end-user and is not be familiar with domain values and curious as to why the price seems high to them. Or it could also be from a domainer who feels traffic stats are needed for the price to be considered. Why not simply reply with some kind of justification rather than ask $500,000 or cancel negotiations. What's the big deal in a genuine response anyway :?:

People, this is supposed to be a funny thread, asked that you think up a funny reply and post it.

We all know that most sarcastic/funny replies would never make it passed the sedo censors and of course you don't want to alienate a potential buyer...although once in a while, I honestly believe it's worth it :)

excellent viewpoint from the other side of the coin

one has to be conscious of that perspective, as it's a "variable" that could increase sales.

imo...

Just explain your asking price. He might understand and counter with a decent offer. If not, the next offer is early enough to cancel.

The worst Sedo lowballers are the ones who repeat the $60 offer multiple times not even raising the bid by $10.
