Riddle #3: (this could be YOU)

OK ladies and gentleman. Here we are at the DNForum arena for round three. Ding! Ding! Ding! And............FIGHT! (not really please - let's all be nice and sing hymns)

3 big western countries decided to enter an international chess tournament. Here were the headlines -

"Germany defeated in 45 minutes!!", "America uses secret strategy" and "Switzerland cheats!!". At the last minute Canada, trying to keep up with America, decides to enter - what is a possible headline for that match and why?

Note: If you are reading this now, Nexus and DNS Kidd solved it, so if you want to do it yourself, stop scrolling as soon as you see Nexus' name and don't read his post.

Hmmmm.......you obviously put a lot of thought into that one, so please don't feel too crushed that it's wrong.

That's nice. Wrong, but nice and I think you keep forgetting that it's a riddle, not just an opportunity to make up headlines, as exciting as that may be. :D

You can't get it right unless you also correctly explain why it is right. Anyway, night-night.

Yeah it is fun to bash Canada every now and then. Maybe I will try and come up with the real answer. :D

I am trying to think how the three headlines are related, how about this:

America has a secret strategy to presumably win and uses it. Let's say they use it against Germany and it works well and Germany loses in record time. That would fulfill two of the headlines.

Switzerland, how do they fit though... How do you cheat in a chess game? You could throw a game. You could bring in a 'wringer', get a Russian to play for your team, saying he's Swedish.

How secret a strategy can it be if it is published in the paper? :)

I guess I don't really have a viable guess/answer.

4 Western countries, in an international tournament? Hints?

Based on history, anagram, rhyme? Sorry, I give up!

HEADLINE READS: Canada called to action

The headlines relate to the letters the abbreviation for the respective country's denomination begins with.

Germany - Deutsche Marks (DEM) "Defeated"
American - United States Dollars (USD) "Uses"
Switzerland - Francs (CHF) "Cheats"
Canada - Canada Dollars (CAD) "Called"

Nexus, awesome connection there! The 45 must play into this somehow. I think once that is broken, this will be easy.

Code refers to the countries ccTLD.

Germany DE-feated
America US-es
Switzerland CH-eats

Headline: "Canada CA-ncels Tournament", follows ccTLD pattern.

Thanks Nexus for the hint, what was it we deal with all day long, domains????
