The number of registered TLDs has roughly doubled in the last 5 years while the number of valuable names has barely budged. Speculative reg & renewal volume bucking global financial headwinds is rooted in the same low barrier to entry and "math tax" as the lotto. The domain aftermarket signal to noise ratio will worsen as registration growth continues. Get used to it and tune your filters.

In the vein of this post, here is a good one that I found! The domain is 'Quponz.com'. The owner is seriously (I think) looking for a CEO to run the site which right now is just three pages looking for a (very stupid) 'angel' investor at $250K minimum to talk. His target salary for his (also incredibly stupid - and non-existent) CEO is 3 MILLION with 5 BILLION more likely to be made with stock options! The domains owner will provide some sort of site but other than that seems to be planning to watch things from his easy chair (with two female attendants) by the pool with the two Rolls Royces and his mansion in the background view. Its so delusional that it is well worth a look: http://quponz.com/default.html. (My apologies if you are the proud owner of this name but I have some bad news for you...)

I beleive 95 percent of names posted dont get any real traffic at all, I also notice on sedo crappy names selling for just the same price as some nice names that probably get decent traffic

That happens because of it being mostly luck and a numbers game. Since there are many millions of names offered for sale a very small percentage will sell (often to end-users) each week througout the year who have a plan for a particular domain and don't care about traffic, stats or care if you thnk the name is good or bad.

That's the reason DNjournal.com is loaded with 100s of sales each week with many being dubious value vs the high prices. It's basically mostly a numbers game combined with luck, and as more and more domains get registered including all the new extensions the overall perception of poor quality worsens.
