Description
The penguin is a bird. The penguin is a vertebrate and warm blooded. Penguins are mostly black and white. Each square inch has 70 feathers. The Emperor Penguin can grow up to 45 inches. The penguin can dive down 870 feet.
Habitat, Predators & Prey
Penguins live in Antarctica, South Africa, New Zealand, Chile, Peru, and the Galapagos Islands. They can live in Antarctica if its 10 below zero. They are carnivores therefore they eat small squid, krill, and small fish. Their predators are Orcas, Sheath Bills, Sea lions, and Leopard seals. Penguins do not migrate or hibernate. The only thing they need to survive are water and food. Penguins usually live in a group. The father sits on the egg while the mother is getting food and then the father goes out and gets food later.
Life Cycle
A penguin's life span is 20 to 30 years. Its babies are called hatchlings. Baby penguins are raised by their mother and father. The female penguin usually lays two eggs. It takes a month and a half for the babies to hatch and takes two days just to get out of the eggs.
