Burlington man stabbed after sign language mistaken for gang signs, police say

View attachment Robert-Jarell-Neal.jpg

BURLINGTON, N.C. —Police in Burlington say a deaf man was stabbed several times after his sign language was mistaken for gang signs by another man.

Sgt. Mark Yancey said 45-year-old Terrance Ervin Daniels was using sign language with another deaf man. A third person saw them, thought they were flashing gang signs and stabbed Daniels several times with a kitchen knife. A neighbor saw the victim and called emergency personnel.

Daniels is in stable condition at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after Wednesday's incident.

Police arrested 22-year Robert Jarell Neal and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and felony assault on a handicapped person. He's in the Alamance County jail on a $500,000 bond. It's not known if Neal has an attorney.

I think we should be calling for legislation that bans all kitchen knives.

and other knives

and swords

and crossbows

and of course automobiles that account for over 40,000 deaths every single year.

Afterall it's not the people who use these instruments of death, but rather the instruments itself.

what kind of hand signs could a gang member use to set a guy off the deep end to stab someone 6-7 times.... I only know of one. :)

And I see that every time I drive :)

This is nothing new folks.

Anybody remember Cabrini–Green in Chicago?

Has it been so long that nobody remembers? I remember and have been there.

If you scratched your nose wrong, you ended up dead.

Nope. Need to outlaw sign language. That is what precipitated the stabbing.

Finally, all three of us on the same page.

but yeah, gangs signs get thrown up all the time, so you better recognize where you at....sun!

they've torn down all the high rise jets and moved those residents to the neighborhoods.

that's why the surge in violence in areas that once were quiet.

it's all about gentrification and property values

the folks being moved out are mad

the people in the neighborhoods where those folks were moved to, are mad

which puts everyone closer to the edge

i'm tryin not to loose my head

Looking at a map of the metro line and rail line here in Houston. Not sure what site I ended up on. But the poster identified parts of the city for nOObs. Pretty telling sign when someone labels it as being "Crack Row" and "No Man's Land".

So, yeah...gang and gangbangers are a serious thing. Gang signs and even colors...anything can be perceived as being gang related.
