Ok, today I was thinking about the Boston Red Sox (my hometown team) since baseball is in the air. I started to think how much sadness I've experianced because of that team or any sports team in Boston in general. So here is my saddest sports moment....

1) In the 2003 ALCS the nobody Aaron Boone gets a walkoff home run against Tim Wakefeild to right feild in the 11th inning. We had that game!!!! It was World Series for us! They should have taken Pedro out in the 8th- hell the 7th!!!! Who the hell is Aaron Boone??:upset:

2) Buck Dent's homer against my SOX :disappointed:

3) Honorable mention goes to Brazil losing this last years World Cup. I was dating a Brazilian at the time and that lost was crushing.

Since this is an international forum... post your saddest moment for any sport.

Forgot to mention.... I hate the New York Yankees!!!!

Greece reaching the World Championship semifinal in basketball last year, beating USA 101-95; then losing to Spain at the final 70-47 after a really crappy play as a team.

Brazil losing the WC was not a sad moment...they played awful since the begining of the tournament.

Argentina losing with Germany was a sad moment, because Germany never deserved to continue...

Ben Johnson winning against his fellow steroid freaks but later getting caught and losing his gold medal.

Montreal Expos had their best season ever only to see it thrown away with another baseball strike. The World Series was theirs!

In the early 80's the Miami Dolphins lost to the San Diego Chargers in an NFL playoff game.
I cried for 2 days, and even stayed home from school.
I have not gotten over that loss, to this day.

For the Angels, this would have to be the saddest in there History, For the Boston Red Sox, -X-'s team, there happiest day. If anyone remembers, This game ultimately led to Donny Moore taking his own life.

1986: One strike away

Again, the Angels nearly reached the World Series in the 1986 postseason. Baylor was gone, but among the new additions were American League Rookie of the Year runner-up Wally Joyner and pitcher Chuck Finley. Champions of the AL West for the third time, the Angels faced the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS (now best 4-out-of-7). Leading in the series 3 games to 1, the Angels were one out away from defeating Boston and going to the World Series for the first time in their history. Leading 5-2 in the top of the ninth inning of Game 5, starter Mike Witt surrendered a two-run home run to former Angel Don Baylor, cutting the Angels' lead to 5-4. After reliever Gary Lucas hit Rich Gedman with his first and only pitch, closer Donnie Moore came in to shut the door. Though twice the Halos were one strike away from the Series, Moore gave up a two-out, two-ball, two-strike, two-run home run to Dave Henderson that put Boston ahead 6-5.

Although the Angels managed to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, Henderson again came through for the Red Sox with a sacrifice fly in the 11th, eventually giving Boston a 7-6 victory. Thoroughly shocked, the Halos then travelled to Fenway Park and were blown out in Games 6 and 7 as the Red Sox claimed the pennant. They would go on to lose the 1986 World Series in seven games to the New York Mets, a series known for the infamous Bill Buckner error in Game 6.

In the aftermath of the ALCS, Angels fans regarded Henderson's home run off Moore as the point at which their team had been closest to the World Series, and thus Moore became the scapegoat for the Angels' loss of the pennant. Although the fans were hard on him, Moore (who had battled depression in the past) was even harder on himself, and that one pitch to Henderson that turned the tide of the ALCS haunted him for the rest of his days. He would take his own life three years later, claiming to have never gotten over that moment. Moore's suicide was the latest in a series of tragedies that dogged the team (star pitcher Lyman Bostock was shot to death in 1978 while visiting friends in Gary, Indiana) and gave rise to talk of a "hex" on the franchise. The Angels would not qualify for the playoffs for the next 16 years.

That was bad, but then biting off a big chunk of Holyfield's ear? That was sad! That was one of the greatest fighters ever to step in the ring and to watch that was horrific!

Tony, Tony, Tony.

Dr. Phil here.

You seem to have such aggression. And such a hatred for "bums".

I want you to turn the TV off, put the remote control down, and slowly walk away from the TV set.

Do not turn it back on (except when my show comes on your local network).

You are obviously not safe around athletes or TV sets.

We need to talk. Call me.

How could I forget - Wayne Gretzky being traded to the Los Angeles Kings. Canadian icon and hero traded for gravy and a bag of pucks.

Me in high school with a class of 2000 students per class. Too many guys were bigger than me. Instead of football and baseball, I ended up on the fencing team.

I coulda been a contender.

I am a huge Sox fan living in New York, so my memory is a bit worse. I was watching the game in a restaurant called Pino's (owned by a former Sox player Jerry Casale). This was one of 3-4 restaurants in NYC welcoming Sox fans so it was a well-known Sox haunt. Anyway, right after the walk-off tons of Yankee fans were right outside waiting to taunt and ridicule us...

Fast forward a year to my best memory. Pino's was out of business so everyone went to 2-3 places for the World Series, one of which is called The Riviera, located right in the West Village - known for its' gay friendly bars. People are lined up outside this bar 3 hours before the game. As gametime approaches and there are still a few hundred people in line, people start to realize that the bar wouldn't fit everyone. Groups of people split off and start jogging to every bar in the vacinity. I forgot the name of the place I ended up, but it was filled with Sox fans. As soon as the last out was recorded, beer was flying and everyone ran out into the middle of the street to celebrate. People had champagne spraying and it was incredible. There were several hundred Sox fans in the middle of Manhattan celebrating the World Series. Several police cars pulled up but it was pretty orderly. That is my favorite sports moment of all time.
