I was talking to a young guy early last week about the importance of two things in business. Everything has small beginnings and whatever you do…..start!
I first started my own domain portfolio around 12 years ago and I’ll never forget the day that my first domain earned 20 cents. It was one of those ‘Eureka’ moments for me and the light well and truly went on. Other than my wonderful wife, everyone else around me told me to get a real job and would say, “It’s only 20 cents!”
Even the biggest trees in the world started from a seed. My first domain was my seed and it started growing rapidly as I watered it each day.
It’s great have a big vision but remember that a vision is always in the future. Today is all about doing what is quite often a lot of boring stuff but if you keep on doing it then your small business will have a chance to grow.
The second point I made to the guy is “start!” You’d be amazed at the number of people that have all sorts of plans but never execute on any of them. I’ll have people swear that they’ll get started straight away and end up doing nothing…..it’s actually quite embarrassing. Be a person of your word and stay true to yourself…start!
