We've had about 10 here including aftershocks the past 2 weeks here in Southern Az.

Weird, even though we're supposedly sitting directly on a fault.

An earthquake going on for a minute and half?
Sounds like the new tube station is right under your apt.

Magnitude 4.7 near Leeds, very odd...

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsww/Quakes/us2008nyae.php

This is quite odd, I didn't think they had them often in the UK. I guess this will cause more friction in the Caribbean and maybe make one near Puerto Rico / USVI.

Thank god we don't have earthquakes here in Florida (just hurricanes, tornadoes, etc..).

eventhough earthquakes are dangerous and deadly, most of them usually are between 2-5. buildings in tokyo are very close together and you can see them sway. its really neat to see this.
once we had a 6.1 and it was pretty big. I thought my wife would come to me to protect her, but instead she ran to our flat-screen tv

the vending machines are triggered at 7 to not charge one from getting food or drinks from them. tried shaking them, but they are bolted to the ground.:undecided:

NP. I've seen an increase in the frequency in earthquakes and it's been a while since we've had a big one. I don't think Cascadia subduction zone is going to go, but possibly something big, ~8 range?

NP, I also have an RSS feed set up from USGS (and other similar groups that I may find in the future). I put this site up over the past week to help monitor seismic events.

i know what you mean ;) a little reminder from mother nature, perhaps.

Now we have a system in Japan that predicts earthquakes in 5 seconds. It is hooked up to our cable and an alarm goes off saying "possible earthquake in 5 seconds....4, 3, 2, 1, 0..." hasnt worked yet as there have been no big earthquakes recently.

Word! I'm north of you DD, and we have had a lot of activity here in Utah as well. Kind of unusual all the earthquakes lately.

It's interesting when they say it was a relatively light earthquake. While that may be true on a global scale, if the area isn't built for it then even a small earthquake can be disastrous.

4.8 active places like California people wouldn't even get out of bed for but in areas like the UK, eastern US, etc.. can be quite rattling (no pun intended). I'm glad to see there were no reports of major damage or injuries.
