I think everyones forgetting the main point of this... Regardless of were they still in business, or if the site was shit; Almost all domainers know about GreatDomains. Half the work if not more is already done for them. A new website, or new services can always be made... Very smart move in my opinion.
Greatdomains is much like a run down billboard in a very very good location.
I am wondering what all the recent consolidation activity in the DN industry is leading up to? anyone here got ideas to share on the subject of where all this consolidation is leading or means?
Are names more valuable to own and are companies buying others for their portfolio?
Is domain buying activity on the rise and the companies want a piece of auction sites?
I think it has to do with the fact that the industry is changing. In the future, no names will follow the traditional drop cycle, they'll all be resold by the registrars or tasted by them and held if they produce revenue. SO what we have are registrars become like parking services. So its only smart to buy now and prepare for the storm. So theoretically the big registrars will become the most powerful force as they'll be able to control all aspects of the domain. As they grow and hold, again in theory, they can wipe out a Sedo or a Snapname as those services will already be encompassed in their system. Again this is just a thought.
LewR, belated congrats on a $500k sale.
With regards to the sale of GreatDomains.com, I have to ask WHY? Perhaps sedo wants to rebrand it and only list high value domains there?
Maybe they just bought the domain name GreatDomains.com because that's the only thing of value left
