Sedo Launches DOMAIN AUCTION

I just visited Sedo, and noticed a new add on. Live Auction, i emailed them a list of domains, see what happens.

Its about time, they get the auction live.:usa2:

You mean it's a live new service that real, live Sedo staff will attend? I can't wait, maybe they will be there to answer some questions as well!

They need to make it easier for us to see only those auctions where the reserve has been met.

I made an offer for a domain name, and when the buyer satisfied with my offer, he put the name on auction. Which mean I'm bound to my offer for 7 days during the auction. If no other people bid on it, the domain name will be mine. But if some people bid on it, I will be outbided and I have to put higher offer.

It's a terrible deal for the orginal buyers, isn't it?

It's an insult to the original buyer.
I will never do this to my buyers.
And also I will never make another offer at sedo. That is because if someone did that to me and the domain ended with no other bids, I wouldn't pay. So no more buying at sedo. Direct offers ONLY.

I thought the same thing, that is highly unethical towards the buyer, but very profitable for sedo because it drives the price up...If someone is trying to buy a domain and it goes to auction someone else can (and accoring to Murphys law will) buy the domain, simply because he knows someone else wants the domain. Once he buys the domain he can just wait for the original buyer to come around and get more money for it...why would I ever buy a domain through Sedo if everyone else can see that way what kind of Gem I mihgt have bought (or trying to buy)?

Exactly. It's the concept behind the "fat fingers" approach on auction sites like eBay: looking for typo'ed auctions and thus buying cheaply, because the majority of the bidders will consciously bid when others bid too. Competition is part of the human psychology.

I received an offer for one of my names and put it up for auction to see if anything happens. I had the choice of accepting the offer, making a counter offer or putting it in the auction. By putting it in the auction I gave up the ability to counter offer so it is possible that the buyer will make out better by getting the name at his first offer if no one bids in the auction. Before the auction option I would have asked the buyer for a higher price.

most of us are sellers n buyers... i like the program... as a buyer i would never bid on a website... i would contact the owner directly.. whois

This will only increace the non paying buyers.
No serious end user will participate in an auction.

I just bidded against someone at the last minute and thought that the other person might be the seller, so I stopped bidding and let him/her won.

I think I might stop making offers thru sedo.

same to me, and at the end sedo isn't as professional as they claim to be even if a sale "is made", too often the deal does not go through later

Sedo, Afternic, Ebay, etc are not auction houses, brokers, etc ... when a deal goes bad, they go into hiding with their answer being work it out yourself - we can't be bothered; it's not our problem.

On the bright side, one can take advantage of that lack of regard, and many do; most obvious way is bypassing Sedo, Afternic, Ebay, etc when it comes to doing the actual deal...

And because Sedo, Afternic, Ebay, etc aren't licensed, they won't do anything because otherwise they run the risk of getting into the middle of a murky legal battle...

Basically, except in rare instances in which one of above mentioned services has truly added value to a transaction (yes, occasionally they really do), buyers who overbid due to shills and the sellers who paid the 10% or whatever commission are chumps - harsh, but sadly is the reality.

As a seller I have two competing situations.

For a couple of very 'prime' (ultra prime I mean) keyword domains I have had numerous offers in the past week (I only managed to register the domains on the 21/10/2006). The potential buyers all refuse to initiate biding on the domains on the Sedo auction. True the money offered is slowly going up and up but as the domains have no real precedence in the market (lesser domains go for $x,xxx to low $xx,xxx and equivalent and better domains go for mid $xxx,xxx up to the record!) it is difficult to set a true valuation on the domains, therefore the Sedo auction would seem the logical answer. Unfortunately the response is negative by the buyers.

Then on Saturday I recieved an email enquiry about Zen.st, not quite in the same league as the domains mentioned above. I said I would accept the offer if allowed to go through to Sedo auction. No problem at all with the buyer!

Just goes to show there are swings and roundabouts in every situation, although in this instance the opposite of what I would have expected.

If you can`t answer what they are, tell us at least the extension
