Sedo to Auction Premium .Mobi Domain Names!

"Among the .mobi domain names to be auctioned by Sedo include Wine.mobi, Autos.mobi, Clubs.mobi, ATM.mobi, Pizza.mobi, Dentist.mobi, Music.mobi, Photos.mobi and Roses.mobi. The first auction will be for Roses.mobi and will launch on Valentines’ Day. I like ATM.mobi, which could be a mobile phone ATM locator. Music.mobi could be a big hit given the surge in press about mobile music over the past few years (Apple’s new iPhone announcement won’t hurt, either.)"

wow that's amazing especially considering sedo doesn't even give .mobi the courtesy of grouping it with the other global tlds yet

If .mobi becomes a location service that I hope it will become, complete with GPS capability, I think ATM, PIZZA, and CLUBS will be huge.

Gee, no wonder they weren't available when I tried to reg them. Aw, shucks, I thought I was the only one who thought of them. Darn:cool:

Man, throw BEER.mobi in the mix and we're good to go!

there's nothing good about the SEDO auction.. In case you remember, your argument about .MOBI was the fact to get a premium name you had to fill in an RFP along with business plan for the registry to ensure that domains will be developed..

and now guess what? they're being auctioned @ sedo.. .nice one

Agree with Maroulis, I'm afraid .mobi is starting to look like nothing but a tool for the money mongers who congered it up.

I agree. I fear that some of these names may be wasted on people who have no intention of developing them. I hope that I am wrong.

I also concur that. RFP is the way to go for many premium names and is the best way to promote .mobi.

I guess the RFP is too labor intensive, so they go to the easy route.

ummm, we're talking about 58 out of almost 6,000 so although we are only talking about less than 1% of the reserved names the marketing and extension recognition will be huge ... they should use as many avanues as possible to continue the buzz. i say spread it out, give great domains a few, afternic and every domain event that comes along ... the more the extension is in the spotlight the closer to public acceptance we get.

Agreed - you have to wonder in the long term confidence as it would be better to get top names established as sites as per a valid RFP or some cash in the bank now.

The thing is are they open auctions or are they pre registered bidders? I think the pre registered bidders would be the better option ensuring the bidders are in fact genuine and have the ability to pay the obviously high prices! If Sedo continue along their 'oh someone didn't pay never mind' attitude the auctions will turn into a farce! Sedo need a kick to start enforcing their 'legally binding' contracts!!!

According to MTLD, the entire point of reserving these premium names, was to ensure that they will be developed. If these are being auctioned off to the general public, who is to say that Pool or some other drop catcher won't themselves bid on them only to re-auction them off? If they no longer care who bids on these names, then I say let them loose to the general public, and give everyone a chance to register them.
