Over the years I have had many instances where it was difficult to trace the domain owner but invariably I found them.

That is until now.

I was after this domain and no matter what tools we used, people directories, our network, forums members help, domain tools, offers for the domain on SEDO platform, on that failing we used SEDO broker, speaking to the registrar and hosting provider but we just couldn't find the owner.

It is like he vanished from the face of the internet or may be died, I dont know. Highly frustrating. We finally gave up.

Hence I was wondering if it is just one off situation or others had similar experience.

My experience in the industry isn't as deep-rooted as some, but I have run into that problem with at least 2 or 3 domains.

What I've done is place backorders on the domains in question. Sorry, I know that isn't a miracle cure. But the hypothesis I'm working with is that somebody who owns a domain without developing it and without listing it for sale anywhere probably acquired the domain for a reason that no longer exists, and the registrant is probably more likely than most to drop the domain on expiration day without even noticing. Hell, the guy may be deceased! Unfortunately, what I've also noticed is that these domains tend to be registered for long intervals.

thanks for your reply Image Authors, I was not looking for solutions but just to see if this is a common occurrence. Like you do I use backorders too, thought the frustration comes from not being able to get the domain when you have the money for it but wait longer hoping it drops.
