Does anyone know what the status of releasing the single letter dot com's is? There was the buz in December that ICANN may be nearing the release, but I never heard anything else.
It was more of a rumor from what I heard. You never know though. I wouldn't be surprised to see it sometime in 2006 since the demand is growing more and more.
single letter domains won't be released until ICANN decides how to go about the process. Of course, they could just release them like regular domains, but that wouldn't be fun...
I'm thinking an auction spanning several months, with proxy bids and major corporations strong arming the competition... Anyone else having fun...? Guess not...
Even if the single letter domains go to auction, Yahoo's previous actions will ensure that they will pick up y.com for a song. Most single letters as a guesstimate will go for 7 figures, but Y.com will only go as high as 5 figures at a guess, that's of course if there is someone out there prepared to risk their capital going after the name.
They can try to Trademark anything they want.....it doesn't mean they have the right to y.com the domain name. It would go for much more than 5 figures even if Yahoo publicly stated they would go after the name in a dispute.
