Looks like it's been updated with a lot more info and it's still 100% Free.

http://www.snapcheck.com/

Now you get Namewinner bid amounts, Overture results, Google/MSN/Lycos linkpop results.

Click on a header and it has built-in sorting too. Sort by Linkpop, by Namewinner bids, years registered, etc.

Easy to flip through, find a good name that doesn't have a Snapnames Back-Order on it already.

"great" free services like this one put NW and POOL bids through the roof.

now when you have to bid $2k on a domain that would have
otherwise been yours for $150, you'll know who to thank.

sure it's "nice" that the service is FREE, but what you people
don't realize is that FREE is NOT good in this business. why?
because you will all fight for these names on auctions and
drive prices way above the resale value.

while the big dogs snipe domains at the last possible minute (
and bid way above what the average domainer can afford), most
of you guys bid as soon as you find a decent name. this means
that you'll drive the price up, unnecessarily.

it annoys the hell out of me to see all you COMPLAIN about
how high NW and POOL bids are when you're driving the price
up yourselves by supporting "free" services like this one.

no doubt in my mind the owner of that snapcheck site is a
complete IDIOT.

think NW/Pool bids are high now? give it a month and see them
explode.

Agree on everything there except one sentence. The guy definitely has a smart business model and he's betting Pool will be here to stay. Luc's sentiments though are well founded.....it's all about the benjamins now in the drop game....a complete 360 reversal of the equity that existed in the market during the golden days.

Forget smarts.....joe newbie can get in this game so long as he has the $$$ to do so....just wait till the new breed of fat cats enter the game and bring us to a classic bubble scenario.

keep this thread going guys, more free publicity for snapcheck.com et al *cough*

I think a lot of the problem with high bids is simply a result of the introduction of the redemption period. All names drop at a predictable fixed time and sit around for a much longer time for people to find out about them. Remember when registrars like stargate practically dropped names immediately after they expired. Names dropped before people knew what hit them. IMO that is what made snap so much better in those days, since they would monitor 24/7. The bids used to only be high for netsol drops that showed up on exody's main list. Many people didn't even bother chasing names that were with some of the more "rag tag" registrars if they couldn't get the snap.

Thsi snapcheck thing is out of the bottle and is something that we will just have to live with and adapt to.

lol,,

If only I had this info, how much I would like it.

Maybe I can pay the owner to shut up and just provide it to me?

Think about this from the owner of Snapcheck's perspective. He isn't picking up the domains, or even bidding on them. So he doesn't care whether or not the bids are $100 or $1000. Me personally, I pickup a few here and there. Doesn't matter to me either whether or not 2 people know about domain.com or 2000 people know about it. Odds are (pre-Snapcheck) now that I won't be getting it anyway. I wasn't picking up the premium names before as of late.

Maybe it means MoneyBags1 will end up paying a little more if MoneyBags2 enters the market looking to buy. Let 'em.

Devil, I know. I believe you.

I'm just saying to look at it from the perspective of the webmaster/owner of the site. It doesn't affect him personally, so he wouldn't care if the information revealed is too valuable or not.

It doesn't affect me much either, so I don't care if his site exists or not.

So then, what motivation is there for him to stop providing his free service ?

well, i doubt pool affiliate links pay off...

let see..

say on average 20K names drop daily.

Running 20,000 through snapnames at a rate of 50 names/search= 400 searches.

Then he has to find the names that have snaps and enter them into the html... etc.. upload..

anyways, soundfs like too much time for too little $
