Yes I see it too. Not really a surprise though. With Pool.com and others entering the fray SnapNames has a lot more competition than they used to, so naturally the number of successful Snaps is going to drop.

Snaps could be getting ready for WLS. Big big money there for them, not the pitiful money they earn from their fixed priced snapbacks.

Yep.... totally agree, they have got me nothing out of 7 trys except for a subpar name I just put a snap on to see if they would get it.

I have 4 reseller-SnapBacks which spent 3 exchanges.
I lost to NameWinner (even small bid), Go Daddy, eNom besides BuyDomains.

They got 'ideamart.com' for me a couple of months back. Nothing but failures otherwise in 10-12 trys. They don't seem to do much better than GoDaddy and at least GoDaddy is cheap!

BTW - What is with WLS?? Is it coming?

Snap has been doing horrible for me for a few months. Every big name that I have had a snap on has failed. They still get the medium stuff, but the big stuff seems to go elsewhere - at least when I hold the Snap.

The other day they got FreeRingtones.com, right?

I have had good success with snap. I've been getting about 60-70% of the names i have had snaps on. All in all i have a much better success rate there than anywhere else. So yes while it bites the big one when you lose a snap on a good name, think about how many times you lost names through the other services. It just hurts more when you are "THE snapholder" of a name since in order to have the snap you must have been watching it for a long time. Think about how juicy it is though when you order a name through godaddy the day before drop and beat the guy who has had a snap on it for 2 months.

Kidkool,

If you're talking Snaps.com, same story! Have had great results with them! It's SnapNames.com directly that sucks for some unknown reason!

From recent experience and what I have have read from others, I think Snapnames party is about over. I have a name that pool grabbed that I had a snap on and still have not received any kind of email informing me of any changes. The current model is fast becoming obsolete.

About Pool. I also had a backorder on the name at pool. They got it and it went up for auction. I checked the auction and I was the only bidder, at the price of $60. It seems I became an automatic bidder because I had a pool backorder on the name. Well then why werent the other supposed backorderes that had an interest in the name automatically bidders also? four hours later finally there is a second bidder. It makes me suspicious to say the least. First of all, I never placed a bid for the auction itself after they initially got the name. But why was I the only , "automatic" bidder after the grabbed the name? It doesn't make any sense.

Nexsite:

Explanation of your situation maybe like this :

There're certainly more than one bidder, you and the other.
Maybe you entered the name first, so you're the highest bidder.

It's your advantage actually to become first bidder.

Yeah Snapnames was much better before the changes were implemented for the redemption grace period. Now that the drop time has become standardized (more or less) for all registrars, it has made it easier for the competition to catch up. Especially Namewinner who (before redemption implementation) used to only run their registration script for a couple of hours at the peak drop time even though names were dropping throughout the day (mainly non-Netsol names).

Plus as the most popular snap service they are bogged down with a lot of low quality domains. But $69 is $69 so their is no real reason for them to go harder after the big names.

Then they started losing some of their better registrar partners such as Namescout, DomainPeople, etc. And they took their eye off the ball to focus on their prospective golden goose (WLS).

This all adds up to a recipe for mediocrity. Don't get me wrong, I am still a customer, but my expectations are much lower nowadays.
