I have not snagged one domain using SnapNames and that is after 8 tries! The latest failure was a NETSOL name that Namewinner caught for a $100 bid. Did I mention NETSOL name?
Quite a few of the other missed names were netsol names as well.

Anyone else?

I'm 1 for 1 with snaps. The name they got me had a bid of 100+ at Namewinner.

NetSol and NameWinner might be in bed together..

Your funds aren't returned. You still have a snap on the name, even after it drops and someone else grabs it. It's up to you to take the snap off of the name, at which point your account is credited one "snap credit", which you can use to put a snap on a different name. You can take snaps off of names and get the credit whenever you want for the year that the snap is good, however snaps which are sold through resellers (such as DNForum) are limited to three exchanges. Snaps purchased directly from snapnames.com have unlimited exchanges, but they usually cost more. Hope I explained it clearly.

RealNames, I know what you mean by stats, they look good at times, but my personal experience of 0 for 8 does not look good from any perspective. The last miss of a netsol name to namewinner for $100 is pretty pathetic, especially after 7 failures in a row. Also these 8 failures were using only 2 unlimited snaps so they were spread apart.

I'm 1 for 1 with SN. They got me e-techsupport.com

I was surprised it didn't have a snap already. I grabbed it within the 6 day PD period.

I still rue delaying my first SnapBack a few months ago (when I'd first found SnapNames). I saw my personal email domain in another TLD (.ORG) expiring. Found SN, and actually started the SnapBack order process, then cancelled it midstream because I thought it was too expensive. Changed my mind a few days later, but someone else had claimed the SnapBack by then.

This was all the more frustrating since it happened during the .ORG TLD handover (when everything was frozen). According to SN, PIR.org would hold all expiring .ORG domains for 3-4 months before releasing them, so I was surprised when that domain's SnapBack was suddenly listed as available again. Actually thought the other person might've moved his SB subscription because of the 3-4 month delay. I did put my SB order in then but would've had to wait months to find out for sure, so I called them instead. At first they told me it did mean the original SB was moved, but after checking some database they found out that that original SB did get processed after all, inexplicably. So my new SB was actually for next year if the domain should expire then.

Are you saying the domain dropped? If you have the snap on it, it's good for whenever the domain drops, whether that be tomorrow or 10 months from now.

Anyone remember when the full snaps were only $35?
It was so long ago, they didn't even offer exchanges.

No, the other person ordered his SB on the domain a couple of days before handover (w/ the domain supposedly being released about a couple of weeks after, assuming 40-45 day pending deletion hold).

Then hours before the .ORG handover weekend lockdown, all of a sudden SN showed that domain being available to order SB for again. I put in my SB order at that time right away, but couldn't be sure if that meant the original person moved his SB subscription to another domain (perhaps because of the .ORG delay announcement for expiring domains), or if by some miracle his SB got processed right before the lockdown. If the former, that means the .ORG domain could be mine after the 3-4 month hold by PIR. If the latter, that means the other guy got this domain registered until next year, and my own SB purchased either on the same day or the day after his registration (so it would be pretty useless to leave my SB on this domain all year) :)

Or maybe I have my reasoning messed up here, I'm a newbie sorry...

P.S. I've perhaps "overcompensated" for this recently with a .US (http://www.dnforum.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=198850#post198850)

I have about 15+ snaps/snapnames. They have caught a few over the past month. Unfortunately, most of the names are second tier names.

The first tier names are already "snapped" up. You have to make the gamble way in advance. For example, I tried to put a snap on UnitedStates.com a couple months ago. But, someone was already ahead of me.

As for using NW for a name like that. On the final drop date, the price would be rediculious.

The other problem I have with NW is the typical (Ebay style) sniping of the prices.

Sniping really should not bother you. If you bid/proxied the total ammount you are willing to spend, then the snipe should be no biggy. Either you get it or it goes for more than you wanted to spend.

The only way to bid at name winner is to A: get the $8.95 position while proxying your total ammount you will part with
or B: Bid your full amount you are willing to spend at 9:59 pacific.

I bid at NW on USAticket.com today at 9:59 pacific and still got sniped 30 seconds later. Ya I was pissed that the guy/gal made it in but he/she was willing to spend more than me. lol

Why. If he gets it great, if he doesn't he moves it to another name. Al he's lost is the time on the snap.
