Hey,

I recently sold a 4 letter .com on eBay last night. The guy paid by PayPal, all was well, I sent the domain name, and then he did an 'unauthorized transaction' complaint and a chargeback. It looks to me that the buyer was using a stolen eBay and Paypal account. The domain now resides under an address in Turkey (and not Canada which was the address of the eBay and Paypal account).

I guess its the oldest trick in the book and I've fallen for it due to no proper Escrow. The domain is still with Godaddy and has not moved registrars.

Have I just lost the name 100%? Anything I can bother to try?

Thanks

Unfortunately that doesn't help you much. AFAIK, GoDaddy won't do anything if you have pushed the domain yourself. They can take action only in the case your GoDaddy account is hacked and domain stolen.

I would contact GoDaddy with this information, from what I can see, this is the only chance you will have of claiming your name back.

Exactly - if its still with them you have a far better chance at getting it back than if you didn't.

Don't email, don't use a web forum, CALL THEM. People like to day you can't get the domain back but if you call them, that's the worst that'll happen leaving you where you are now - so at least it's an attempt to get it back.

I did send them an email, because it is more documented and let me paste links and details. I will phone them now but I've always assumed they don't help what so ever.

Also, The case you are trying to resolve, is fraud. Making posts like this is defiantly not going to help. Just a word of warning :)

Yes, you should try calling them and explain the situation. You have nothing to lose.

Please keep us informed, I would love to see your domain back.

I respect that, but as GoDaddy employees are on this board, seeing such a comment, is not likely to help your case, even if it is in jest.

Again, just my 2 cents, hope you get your name back, keep us posted.

Thanks for the help guys, I have to go out and will update you all tonight if I get a response.

Are the any tips for eBay sellers to prevent this from happening? I have another domain mmmh.com for sale.

I believe if you accept payment via PayPal MassPay, its harder to reverse the payment. I will look into this for you.

Jay

I found this article on DotWeekly, explains 'MassPay' quite well.
