Ok..... Here is the deal.

I sold a dnforum member several domains in late 2005. They payed for the names and transferred all the names except a .us name. I had email contact back then notifying the person that the name had not been transferred out - they said they would handle it. It wasn't handled. I payed a renewal for it (and another one). I've sold well over a thousand names so it is hard for me to keep track of all my names and whether the buyer completed things on their end. I had sent other emails and PMs to this person and didn't hear a thing. The last PM was sent maybe a year ago and another PM was sent today.

I basically said that either the person pay the renewals I've had to pay and actually transfer the name out or if I don't hear back from them by this weekend..... I will keep the name.

So .... if I don't hear from this person should I paypal their initial payment back (can't remember exact price as well)? Should I post publically in the initial thread for them to get things handled one way or another? I'm sick of having the name in limbo and am more than happy to keep it.

Thoughts/Advice?

thx

Why didn't he transfer it, I would just keep it, he has had more than 2 yrs to get the name and he chose not to transfer it!

If you notified him as you say and the domain reached or passed its expiration and you renewed it, I would say the domain is yours again....I would let it go, say nothing, do nothing..... I don't believe in babysitting people.

I have had many domains I sold over the years where the new owner didn't finish the transfer despite repeated attempts to get him/her to do so. As long as revenue exceeds reg fee, I renew and keep them actively making money. The real question then becomes what do you do when you get an offer on a name you previously sold but end up maintaining?

You would sell it, The domain in a sense expired.

I had the same problem with a member here...I created a public thread for him to move the domain names from my account and....he actually did it! If it were to come to a renewal, i would've let them drop..

On the low dollar domains, no problem. On the larger sales, there is always concern the buyers will bring out the attorneys. Just in case, I've always kept good records.

I remember one I sold to a guy in Japan. He transferred it to his registrar in his name. I had a monitor on it and picked it up in a drop when he chose not to renew it. Two years later, he came asking for it. He wondered how I got it. I didn't have to, but I did make a small deal with him rather than get a bad rep.

People do all sorts of crazy things. My 2nd sale ever was for low $x,xxx. Two years later, the buyer let the domain expire and for 4 more years it remained unregistered. The same person picked it up again. Whoops!
