I use Whois-source.com to track registration statics but these seem to be very erratic lately adding 500,000 dot coms yesterday. Is there a more reliable source of the stats?
Best Regards
Dave Wrixon

In a different thread, Dave Wrixon mentioned that someone registered a lot
of domains yesterday. He and I both thought it was an error. Or, some kind
of housekeeping by Verisign.

However, someone registered a lot of generic domains thru Nameview.

I bet before we know what happened. Someone will have registered 1/2 to 1 million
.com's this month.

http://www.webhosting.info/registrars/reports/total_domains/NAMEVIEW.COM

(this link only shows registration up to last week.)

Here are just a couple registered yesterday.

GlobalBoot.com
CarolinaGlobal.com
BakerGlobal.com
GlobalBankWorld.com
GlobalBuddhism.com
GlobalCareUSA.com

plus an add'l 300 "global"

I also did it with a different primary word than "global". And, got similiar results.

Nameview is hiding the ownership.

Registrant
GLOBALBOOT.COM
c/o Nameview Whois IDentity Shield
141-757 W. Hastings St., Suite #777
Vancouver, BC
Canada V6C 1A1

www.GlobalBoot.com

Any guesses who might be doing this?

Is it the Pool owner, Marchex, etc?????

However, we are talking about hundreds of thousands of .com's.

I believe a registrar can cancel the domain within a short period (5-7 days) without
it going thru the Redemption process. Correct????

True. However, I was under the impression that this would not work for huge numbers of domains. But, I am not sure.

it is different with each registrar.

i used keysystems api a couple of years ago and i had no limit . unfortunatly they blocked my after a few month and said that other registrar complaining about my exessive use ( quite sure the real reason was their own dropcatcher)

so if you are a keysystem reseller you can if you manually reg #### names a day you can delete them within a 7 day period (i myself only used this feature a few times)
i am also not sure if this info is still accuate with key or if they changed it , but i know that other comp do the same.i never found a number limit as how many you can delete..

I would not mind if I could "test" typos before I buy them

Nameview = medialogik= asiaventures = blackcab = verticalaxis = proto = hitfarm = domaindeluxe = blah blah blah. There is a string of IP addresses in succession that belong to this group. Fuzzy whois and geo info but BIG and SUCCESSFUL, intertwined, somewhat secretive. If you go to samspade.org, use ip tool, change last digit for ips, you will discover they are all related. This is a domain empire spanning the globe.

I believe dotregistrar also does this for someone.

And, this chart confirms it.

http://www.webhosting.info/registrars/reports/total_domains/DOTREGISTRAR.COM

This reminds me of when I was a kid and the cereal companies
use to put prizes in the cereal boxes.

I guess the registrars (and their key customers) now can look
in the cereal box before purchasing it to decide which ones they want.

For the past 18 hours, I have been thinking about this. If this did
not violate Icann's rules. And, apparently, it is not illegal.
I guess I wouldn't mind having the same opportunity.

But, I'm sure the registrars would require a large dollar commitment.

this was discussed a while ago.... it's pretty clever.. but yea, if you can -- why not?

we don't know all the details of this whole "operation" but somebody will make a ton of money.

vertical axis has a big big portfolio.. and hitfarm has gone exclusive just recently...

a while ago it seemed as if they were going to open up more, but instead they did the opposite.. not sure why.

We are sorry to inform you that we are not accepting any further applicants currently.

looks to me like they are "exclusive" and only accept certain individuals by invites or however they do it.

I use them for 4 months now.
Anyway last time I talked to them they said in beta they don`t accept, but when beta is over, then they may do it - but that may have been changed

True. Yesterday, I was able to grab one of those domains that were originally registered by NameView on Monday (May 16).
