Someone just paid $2150 for NewYorkStockExchange.com

Is that reasonable? Also, am I breaking any rules by mentioning this?

What about $5100 for celica.com? Could there be trademark issues for these?

On the NYSE above, my bet is that their attorneys contact the domain holder within 60 days. They are very aggressive in defending their TM and have a policy of paying big bucks for legal fees and not paying a dime ransom for the domains.

Money is nothing for these guys, but it's the principle with them.

NewYorkStockExchange.com = ovt 412

He'll probably make his money back by the time any WIPO hits his inbox.

Maybe, as long as they don't go after him for legal fees and any earnings.

it has nothing to do with the principles. it's simply their lawyers working for their fees and justifying their existence and using someone else's account to do it with.

why would they settle for something simple and easy, when they can prolong it and overcomplicate it and in that process make more money for themselves.

there are no principles in corporate world.

Don't get lost on the TM argument.

The point is whether the NYSE decides based on their definition of "principle" to go after the new owner for the name and damages.

Exactly. With the assurance by everyone of a C&D of sorts, that brings
me to feel sorry for the winner of today's auction on SnapNames for
the domain, meridia.com. $18,750, and I called the TM company yesterday
to find out what was going on since the domain had been owned by
an amateurish alternative medicine center for a few years.

Apparently, it's been an ongoing case, and in the new hands, it will
probably be developed into an online pharmacy, then seized by
Abbott, the company that manufactures the drug called Meridia.
The marketing rep at Abbott told me that their lawyers have been
watching the name closely and will be stepping in soon.

Anyone know more about it than I?

It was purchased thru Snapnames from Network Sol.

It has been registered since 1999. And, the original owner
did not lose it in that time period.

So, I don't see why they would go after him now unless he puts
something up directly related to Wall St.

It appears that he is using Domain Sponsor

merida - nice. Unfortunately for him it appears that they're on his case (or will be). I suppose one's got to protect their ip.

.

C39B7,
You are making a very big mistake by sticking your nose into any TM
situation that you are not directly involved.

Additionally, Abbott may or may not have even known about it until you called.

Since, you put the marketing rep on the spot he has no choice but to
notify everyone at Abbott about this, if he wants to keep his job.

If, by chance, this case would go to civil trial. Do you really want to be
subpoenaed by the defendant or Abbott?

Suggestion. Don't go looking for trouble.

Enough will come at you by accident when doing honest, everyday business.

I'm pretty sure Abbott knew about it if it's the .com of their most
popular product.

But still, thanks for the advice. What does subpoena mean? Does that
mean I'll go to jail or just called to court to testify?
