I understand the realities of war, but ...

Canadian television just aired the footage of the American POW's

Strengthens my anger for our government for not getting involved

Very frightening

I was wondering why the US/UK news have censured this?

No doubt, they are still controlled somewhat by the Government?

If these pictures were shown (no matter if they were real or not), then would not they change people's reactions in favour of anti-war feeling?

BTW, In the UK we have Al-Jazeera direct on our Sky satellite, so unless they plan on sabotaging the satellite, they can't censure it forever.

However, I can't seem to access the Al-Jazeera website at the moment (www.aljazeera.net).

I'd assume they are not shown in the US/UK, so that the families can be notified - it would be devastating to see your family member in a video of that nature.

This video footage has been shown on Sky news.
War has been reduced to Sunday TV entertainment!

devolution - probably would not change anything. those who are against will continue to be so...those who stand behind the country and troops will also continue.

actually you could argue the reverse and say it would irritate some of the peace folks enough to get behind the effort.

notification though is an important and accepted part of serving in the military here.

if you understood the relationship between the liberal media and the ucrrent administration you probably wouldnt suggest govt control.

but, i think there are some basic rules the media doesnt break...you dont show the 9-11 attacks (economic and political reasons no doubt plus the fear that they would be seen as trying to capitilize on the incident...could be quite a backlash) and you dont show americans pow's at least until there is clearance on the notification issue.

would you read that as govt control?

opinions vary.

devolution - heres a link to a quick poll being taken about peoples reaction to the POW news:

Click

the poll is on the left

Question: Does knowing there are U.S. POWs change your level of support for the war?

results so far:

More for 67% 4764 votes
More against 17% 1194 votes
Feel the same 16% 1148 votes

doesnt appear to be very scientific but does give a glimpse of what I was alluding to above.

It's not exactly censoring the footage, but more about respect for the families

I do find it odd though that the footage was shown on Sky news uncut yet msn.co.uk and sky news's website show it "hazed" out

Personally I have seen enough of the "news" footage to give me enough take on the "seriousness" of war

Made listening to the football scores seem irrelevant

Its not censoring of footage but respect of the families. Also may i note the: Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War; Article 3 - 1. (a) (c) which have been violated in this action by the iraqi forces and further show proof of their war crimes and disrespect for humanity.

You can read the entire Geneva Convention Here Provided by the U.N:
