The domain name SOO.com is reportedly a stolen domain name. The domain was reportedly stolen from Gregory Soo, and it was registered at Network Solutions. It was transferred to Namecheap. It has been put up for sale on GoDaddy Auctions and also listed for sale at DAN for a low price of $50,000.

We (DNProtect) spoke with the former owner of the domain, and he said via email that the domain name is not stolen.
However, if you look at the WHOIS record for the email address of the SOO domain, there is another email address using another domain. And that domain expired. Did the current owner of SOO purchase the other domain, set up the email address of the former owner, and then take control of the SOO domain? Something doesn't add up here.

Thanks for following through, @bhartzer .

It wouldn't make sense to let your last name go for even so low (mine went for $90k, 80k more than I was willing to pay) unless you were disconnecting completely and had no heirs to carry on the name that could be their brand.

Hi

so,
who is the former owner of the domain, and did he sell it to Mr. Soo,
or is MR Soo the former owner?

Also, did MR Soo report the domain as being stolen, or someone else?
Thanks for the clarity

imo...

It looks like this is what happened with "Soo" (dot com):

The domain name soo had an email address associated with another domain that expired. Ownership of Soo used gregory @ makaera. The makaera domain expired, was caught by someone else, then sold to the domain thief. The domain thief then set up the gregory email and was able to access the Network Solutions account. They then got ahold of Soo and several other domains in the account. I suspect that some other domains are also stolen, as well.

So, like the tilt case with AirBnB, they "acquired" the domain by getting ahold of an expired domain associated with the ownership of the domain.

What a nightmare for the owner and unsuspecting buyer. Hope someone finds the real owner before it's too late?

already been in touch with the 'real' owner of the domain (there are actually other domains involved). It's a nightmare to have your domain stolen. But it's actually "never too late", we can get the domains back to the owner.
