Just got hundreds of these...

Hello,

I have a client who's working on a new project and
would be interested in purchasing your domain name, "******.com".

Would you be willing to sell?

Please reply with any interest at your earliest
convenience.

If you could give me a price or ballpark figure to
take back to my client that would be great as well.

Thank you,

Eric Rowe

If he is interested in purchasing one of your names it seems like he messed up and send so much mails by accident.

I don't think it was an accident.
the guy was looking to get a good deal on a good name, hoping that the email receiver does not know the domain value (only 1% of the domain owners are still "in the dark").
Send him an email with "minimum offer "$100.000";

Another Scam that i got recently, this might be interesting for some of you to read..so here it goes:

From: [email protected]
Hello,

I think you have not sold your domain name yet(XXXX.com). I'm very interested in it. Can you send your price for the domain?

Did you get offers from other people already?

I run a software company. We develop client-server systems and databases in MS SQL and Delphi. Buying and selling domain names is not my main business. Just another way to invest money and make additional income.

Looking forward to do business with you.

Best regards,

Hi
The domain is still with me.
I am willing to sell it for 5000 US$ . but I will not do any sort of appraisal that you might be interested in.
If you like the name, you can buy it if not I will keep the name to myself.
Cheers

Then he wrote:
5,000 USD. Ok.

I need some kind of valuation made by industry experts by accounting reason.

Domain name is an investment for me. In other words I'm going to sell your name later and make a profit. If I overpay I won't be able to make a profit in the future. It's very important for you and me to know the current market value of your domain.

Of course, we must be sure that you are engaging a reputable appraisal company. I heard many appraisal companies often made inaccurate appraisals.
I will only accept appraisals from independent appraisal companies I know and trust.

To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies in a forum

http://**********.ourplace.com/Archive/58046.htm

Juck check this posting.

If the appraisal comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly.

After I get an appraisal from you we'll continue our negotiations.

How do you prefer to get paid: www.PayPal.com, www.escrow.com, check or wire?

Hope we can come to an agreement fast.

I wrote:
Hey
Like I told you , I will not do any appraisal.
Buy if u like if not I am sorry
cheers

Then he again wrote:
I'm interested in your domain but I don't want to risk and will not proceed without appraisal. I never change this rule because it helps me to make good investments. It's a common and honest practice to provide buyers with appraisals. Only domain owners can benefit from appraisals.

Sorry, but I don't understand your position.

You can always use this appraisal to promote your name or sell it to somebody else. But what will I do with the appraisal certificate if you decide to sell your name to another buyer?

Thank you for understanding. I'm looking forward to do business with you.

Ok bye then

simon73, you could always ask them to pay themselves for the appraisal, as you already know the value.
"If you want to get an appraisal please do so, but I am not going to pay for it - you can even get it appraised for free by some domainers at DNForum.com :)"

Hey Simon73.....

I have now gotten my old roommate and my sister in law into domaining. They BOTH got this exact same letter. I told them to tell the guy the same thing you did.

It is basically a scam where the guy tells you to get an appraisal. You find the cheapest place....which he OBVIOUSLY will own. You pay for the appraisal.....and then he never buys the name. Best thing is just tell them to pay for the appraisal themselves....and you will take the price of the appraisal OFF of the domain if they buy.

Nitronet.....

I used to get lots of letters like this. They seem to have slowed a bit now. I cant even remember the last time...maybe a year.

Tell them not to respond to the emails. It is a HUGE waste of time. Nothing good can come from it other than maybe a few laughs.

Just report the email address to your isp or whatever.

Ditto. For the past three years I've consistently held an inventory of between 400-600 domains, and I've never had one of these emails. Of course, I do have a good spam filter...

I got the email as well.
He wanted to purchase googleconsultant.info
Ii went back and forth for fun for a bit and then asked him if he would like some of my other names as well.

> Should I get my other google names appraised as well and we can do a bulk purchase?
>
> I also own:
>
> www.google___hole.info
>

i then got the non standard reply.

It's not necessary because you don't own them.

I think you own other names:

Im____SuckerAndNobodyWantToBuyMyBogusNames.info
ILoveToSuck.info
ImSoStupidAndWasteMyTimeonTheInternet.info

I can pay you good bucks for them.

i feel so special to get the actual personal reply and not the form letter.

I don't think it's a matter of spam filters, since these guys appear to be sending them out by hand. I fell for the scam a long time ago, and they had the nerve to email me back again with the same scam.

Suffice to say, I submitted their IP to the proper authorities, even though it was probably a proxy...

I have had only one in 2 yrs.

Now that I see that others have had them and the CANNED responses,

The text looks exactly the same!

This must be waste of time.

I have to admit at the time it seemed like it was legit, but after 2 emails asking for appraisals, that I said didn't matter and the price stood as offered or I would keep the domain, they/it never replied back.

Gotta love those former USSR drunkards that discovered the Internet. For a couple of hundred rubles you can hire a geek kid living off his grandma's sh*hole apt in Moscow and they send those emails en masse over dialup.
