Hello,

I have a domain name with http://Answerable.com and yesterday at 10:31AM GMT they suspended the name. Here is the message they sent me:

Hello,

We are in receipt of a complaint against your domain name ZXQ.NET which is involved in Phishing activities. Such domain names are strictly against Registrar Answerable.com's AUP.

We have currently Suspended the domain name ZXQ.NET in violation of our AUP. Further, we advise you to, either

1. Transfer Away this and all similar domain names to another Registrar immediately, OR

2. Request us to Delete this and all similar domain names.

You have 2 business days to affect one of the above mentioned actions and to update us about the same. If we do not receive any update from you in the stipulated time, we shall be forced to delete your domain name ZXQ.NET. Also note that we may decrease this period (2 business days) at our discretion, especially if any of our service providers or any law enforcement agency requests us to knock off any such registrations earlier.

If none of your other domain names are involved in such activities (displaying Phishing Related Material), we request you to send a signed letter on the Letterhead of the Registrant Contact (as per the Whois Details) stating the same (that none of your other domain names are involved in any such activities) to Registrar Answerable.com. This letter can be sent as an attachment to this support request or you can Fax it to us at EITHER +1 (320) 210 5146 (USA) OR +91 (22) 6679 7508 (India).

Failure to comply with our request will be treated as a breach of the Answerable.com Domain Registrant Agreement available within your Control Panel at Help -> Legal Agreements.

Please keep us informed of the steps you have taken to control this issue.

Regards,
James

I had NO prior warning to this (usually registrars like GoDaddy email you and give you 24 hours to remove the website), but they suspended my domain name out of the blue. They did not even tell me where the "phishing" website was located (despite me asking), so I have absolutely no idea why the name was suspended.

I have over 25,000 websites using the ZXQ.net subdomain name, and for over 24 hours now users have not been able to access their websites.

I tried phone support which directed me to an Indian call centre, in which I had to wait 20 minutes (despite the fact they told me I was first in line). I asked for them to unsuspend the domain name, but this guy said "Err our abuse team is not available, perhaps try and phone back in 8-10 hours, good bye".

By suspending the domain name it meant they changed the nameservers to their server and I had no control over the domain name anymore. They gave me two options, to move registrar or have the domain deleted - tough decision! Also they claim they have every right to delete my entire portfolio with them, unless I prove that the other domain names are not related to zxq.net (and to do so I have to fax them proof for every domain name!).

So I sent a transfer request over at NameCheap.com, but they cannot continue with the transfer, because the domain name is locked. I cannot unlock it because the name is suspended. And to top it off they tell me I cannot change the nameservers back until the domain name is with another registrar, and that could mean 7 days downtime for my business!

If you want to be treated like dirt, then go with http://answerable.com

Just found out I can't transfer the name because its been with them for less than 60 days (ICANN rule) - gah this just gets worse and worse.

Call SnapNames and see what's up. They own Answerable.

Don't think that this is quite correct. While many names bought at SnapNames will end up with a registrar that is managed with Answerable.com, I don't think they own this company. I rather think it's a DirectI company, which also is the parent company of Skenzo and Logicboxes. As a matter of fact the answerable.com logo even has the tagline "a DirectI business".

SnapNames is however often able to help with names that have been purchased through snapnames and are managed through an answerable.com registrar.

They say the domain was involved in phishing activities. This is quite explanatory. Is your server hacked or do you have rogue hosting clients ?

It is actually LOGICBOXES doing this shit. Happened to me with one domain from drops, they claimed SPAM - while I had no MX record set for this domain and no SMTP server on the machine which this domain resolves to either. Had to write couple of complains before they told "OK we allow you to transfer it out but do it NOW". Logicboxes is the biggest shit joke ever created in domain industry.
