A reporter called me today about the "Stealth" trademark(s) which Leo Stoller is trying to assert against the world.

I think the reporter said he was from the New York Times.

Anyway, there may be an article about this coming out soon.

JB has mentioned Stoller in posts, so I told the reporter about JB.

I got a C&D letter from StealthHosting.net for StealthHosting.com, they incorporated the name Stealth Media so I told them no. Then later I offered it to them for $60 to cover the pool fee.

My impression is that Stoller is trying to make very broad claims for any names/ domains containing the word "stealth."

In other words, it appears to me he is trying to go against the grain of trademark law --circumscribed rights for particular fields of use-- and gain absolute rights to the word.

Actually, a good deal of the other ones are owned or controlled by Stoller. What he does is to oppose registration of "STEALTH" in just about any class of goods and services. Then, he settles by taking ownership of the mark and licensing it back to the applicant at a token rate, in order to build up his portfolio. If you have a domain name with "STEALTH" in it, odds are that you will hear from him eventually if you haven't already.

That appears to be the plan.

The weird thing is that while he seems to enjoy administrative procedures in the USPTO, he loses just about every time he gets near a court:

If he attempts that, he might end up being bombed without him knowing it
because...well...it's on "stealth". :-D
