Hi ,

I had snap on a name which was to be dropped on 10/16/03. My bid at nw was $40 . At 3.30 PM EST I checked my account at snapnames and my snap for this particular name was still sitting there. NW website only said I was the highest bidder - no info if they got it for me or not. I saw a name which had no snap on it so I deleted the snap on domain which I thought snapnames was unable to get for me and used credit to put snap on another name. Shortly afterwards I got an email from the VP of snapnames saying that they had grabbed the name but I had deleted the snap. Was I still interested ? If so I should put a snap on it and will get it in few minutes.

I put snap again on the same name and in few minutes there was an email from snapnames saying they grabbed it for me.

I am glad with the outcome. Anyone else with such experience ?

I had a slightly different situation. But, my rule is not to take the snap
off until I see that someone else actually got the name.

I have also learned the hard way. Not to take the snap off. Even if it says that
the name has been renewed. I wait a couple weeks, if it is a good name.

I changed my mind on a snap late on before the drop once and got a similar offer.

A friend changed a snap some time after the drop once and got a similar offer.

I stuck by my decision and declined the offer.

Jeez! I wonder if it dropped completely, then snapnames saw it was available, so in order to make the profit, got you to renew the snap, THEN regged the name on your behalf!

Did you do a whois before you renewed the snap?

I still think this whole thing works like voodoo!

Been there. Done that.

It is very logical if you understand that Snapnames can take a while to notify you that you have picked up a domain. Nothing strange about this at all.

Yeah I've done that to.

Maybe they send out the list of domains to registrars once a day - and therefore its hard to stop them catching it once they have told them to get it ?

They could prevent changes on backorders starting from a specified cut-off point until they have decided whether or not they have caught the name, perhaps?

I think this is what Godaddy.com do.

Godaddy.com normally manage to inform clients within about 30 minutes of the drops stopping whether or not they have won the domain.

Snapnames do have about 5 times more registrars, so maybe that makes it harder for them.

Snapnames send out list of names to their partner registrars who try to grab them. Snapnames sent me email that they had got the name and enquired if I was interested. Yes indeed. I was . So there was no need to check the whois. Without name in their pocket they could not guarantee me the name if I put a snap on it again immediately.
