I was just checking whois at snapnames for a .ORG ive been watching. The "registrar information" still looks the same it has for along time, but the "(top)whois information" looks a little different, and strange.

That Status area has the following in it:

----------------
CLIENT DELETE PROHIBITED,
CLIENT RENEW PROHIBITED,
CLIENT TRANSFER PROHIBITED,
CLIENT UPDATE PROHIBITED
-----------------

Any idea what that means?.

maybe it means the Feds are watching the domain for signs of terrorist activity on the website.

.Orgs are now out of Verisign to PIR - so it's a WhoIs format change. The domain is deleted I think, just can't be released for a while. SnapNames has a page about .Org drops - short of it is that it might take a while.

I just sold a couple names that had that status showing on 'some' whois records. One just a few minutes ago. However when checking the whois directly at eNom (where they were registered) everything was fine. It's also worth noting that they were names that just dropped yesterday - and had Snaps on them. I just beat them to the punch.

So it's apparently just a 'format change' as DotComster suggested - or maybe just some bugs in the new system. Either way - the names were registered - sold - transferred - without any problems.

Looks like their WHOIS system hasn't quite adjusted to the new .org way of doing things. They're still querying rs.internic.net rather than whois.publicinterestregistry.net which is where authoritative answers come from since the changeover last weekend. I had to make a few changes to the WHOIS script at NameAlerts.com yesterday to account for this.

Best wishes,
Simon.
