Just got a bunch of notifications from Directi about the .IN names I applied for. I didn't get most (like debt.in) but I was successful at getting:

shemales.in
shemale.in

Anyone else get notifications from Directi?

I had 13 domains locked in pre-registrations. I got none. Some of the names in my list were

mail.in
blog.in
bank.in
cash.in

etc

I never understood their allocation policy. They haven't come out transparent on this issue.

There is something shady here. .. I had 4 names involved in this process ... 3 .in and 1 .co.in. Now I did get the co.in but none of the .in.

Was the allotment somehow based on the size of the pre-reg portfolio size. Meaning high profile names going to people who ordered large number of domains in pre-reg stage.

:( :( :(

I hate DirectI now.

You are not the only one. I think Directi will be getting a lot about heat of this whole nonsense.

I just got 2 more notices a moment ago. I did not get:

wireless.in
mobile.in

Oh well. Can't blame a guy for trying.

PreRegistrations failed ... all of them

Here is my response ... Im sure it doesnt mean anything to this childish so called "register":

"I hope this credit can be withdrawn back to my bank account and not my "directI" account. I will definately not be registering with DirectI ever gain. Not only was your domain back ordering process mismanaged, unproperly documented, and poorly researched before you offered something to tons of customers without being able to follow through with your promise .. but also you have the nerve to charge extra money (apart from high registration fee's) to manage nameservers, or website forwarding?

This puts your registration service on the bottom of my list and will be noted as so in many highly participating domain reseller forums."

Good email. However, I doubt they will be foolish enough to charge for managing nameservers. People would burn them to the ground for such crap.

.co.in receive traffic consistently is its a common term used in the sub-continent. However .in is yet to take off since the TLD is relatively new. Not much exposure before its public availability.

FYI, I have a .co.in which receives close to 200 visitors per day and the corresponding .in gets somewhere around 50 per day. The .net for the same name receives around 50 hits per day.

Applied for the same set of .co.in & .in .
Got almost all the significant ones I applied for in .co.in (80%)

But lost most of the .IN, Just got the Indian language names .

I guess most early birds based in India applied for .IN .

Overall I am happy with what I got.

In the .co.in area DirectI exceeded my expectation.

That's why it's imperative that people develop at least some of their .IN names. .IN has great potential but only if we properly market the .IN name space. It could easily take over .co.in, just as .UK could have easily surpassed .co.uk, but unfortunately .UK is a dead issue.

I agree completely if we do not develop them but simply park them we will be in big trouble:
many indians got the co.in since they are cheaper and if they start dev. earlier than the .in who knows...
For Whoever is interested we should at least develop some names maybe using a big indian company that can offer some bulk discount.
I am talking about simple development nothing major even blogs or classifieds would help.
We all got some nice names but if we simply sit on them we are going to hurt each other.
What do you think?

Yup. Furthermore, to prove how serious I am about this, I am prepared to offer free web space on my server (limited bandwidth & storage) for anyone who wants to develop their .IN name(s) into a simple website. I would place one or two banners in exchange. Contact me if interested.

Got 3 out of 5 pre-reg on Directi . For what they told me if u payed with cc they will refund money back. If with other way they will refund money on your directi account and u may buy other services, if u don't wanted this just click on Request Refund for all the amount and will refund it back to u, I suppose with a check.

Now how do I change nameservers for a domain ? I don't mean managed DNS service that had to pay for it, I mean change DNS servers not to use Directi's ones. The can't charge u for this ! Still waiting their support answer.

Answering my own q. cause I know that someone else may have the same problem .

Seems their system when u click on a domain displays all the possible "selling" products and does not show u how to change DNS ...however on the menu :
Domains Registration > Bulk Management > Bulk Modify allows u to modify name servers. After clicking the button to make the modifications an looping updating page which refresh for ever starts but ignore this. Check with whois and u will see that in 1 min the DNS changes so u may close the Directi page which ways until next Olympic games to show the confirmation/success message!

Above all seems the .IN registry made a good job..all updates appears in public within the min!
