I have to decent traffic domains that have absolutely stumped me in terms of monitizing while parked. They have spent time on Sedo, Namedrive, and now SmartName.

The problem is high traffic but no conversion whatsoever on any parking site.

Here are stats at SmartName through yesterday 11/13/2010. BOLD RED = 11/20/2010

Geocounter should be a hit counter, with a breakdown by location.

ewebform - sell html/php form creation software, or provide a form service for the clueless.

trying to achieve the exact same thing on both of these premises through parking keywords.

Do you know the history of the domains - have they been active, offering those kinds of services before?

If so, the "hits" you get, may in fact not be visitors at all, but calls from web sites to services which no longer exist.

Try to point them to a normal web site for a few days, and check the logs which documents people are really hitting.

I've had a couple of "high traffic" domains like that, which turned out to be worthless since the traffic turned out to not really be visitors to the domains at all, but some code included in other web sites.

where are you getting this traffic from? traffic source? analyze first and plan accordingly. Minisite it, maybe? use wordpress for small minsite for analyzing purpose.

Good luck

Those kind of names and names in related categories often get non-real, artificial, image hits only, or bot traffic so there is a good possibility the traffic is not real. If you could get Webalizer or AWstats data you can check the Referral Logs and other stats data to get a good idea if the traffic is genuine. I suspect it is not.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

I decided to try something I have never used and perhaps many of you haven't as well...Adsense for Domains.

I took another high traffic, low conversion name and put it into Adsense for Domains. I thought I would let Google figure out what people are looking for. The result is some conversion that simply did not happen anywhere else.

Thanks.

As for age, the tool you are using is showing the most recent registrar (or even transfer) to me.

Here are the details for Geocounter.net:
Registrar History:
2 registrars with 1 drop.
NS History:
15 changes on 10 unique name servers over 5 years.
IP History:
19 changes on 11 unique name servers over 7 years.
Whois History:
62 records have been archived since 2001-11-05 .

eWebForm.com
Registrar History:
3 registrars with 2 drops.
NS History:
17 changes on 12 unique name servers over 3 years.
IP History:
40 changes on 28 unique name servers over 7 years.
Whois History:
26 records have been archived since 2003-12-23 .

Both are still fetching very high numbers and Geocounter.net has had several clicks, still not much revenue.

This should always be the obvious first step for expired traffic domains.

I doubt you could implement a web analytics system in reasonable time and quality, and for the number of visitors it's not worth it. Just create a site with reviews about free and paid analytics services (Analytics, Piwik), with nice description, images (http://piwik.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/Piwik-›-Web-Analytics-Reports-.png). Swarm it with Adsense and try to find affiliates for the paid services.

eWebForm.com

Leave it, unless you can write in Chinese (?), and even then I don't think it will worth it. At least you will not be able to convert the traffic, but you can start a fresh new project, as the domain is nice.

I used them all the time. Helps set keywords, even when parking.

Add to that the Firefox Developer Toolbar, and you can get exact keywords and metatags used (along with other stuff...).

I'd put them to a place-holder page for a couple of days so I could look at the raw logs...and maybe harvest the refferals with a script and see who is accessing and how. One obviously appears to just be hit counting references...you could do some PHP to respond with an image (I am assuming that would have been the response before) advertising something of yours. The other domain, I'd really want to look at the referrals...maybe the parking before was just not targeted for your market.
