I am interested in "guide" names. Of course I would like Guide.com, etc. but those are long gone. Even 2-word guide names are gone in all extensions like travelguide, vacationguide, apartmentguide, etc.

Stumbled onto this .us today which I like - SuperGuide.us. I had been looking for a name to use as a guide to .US domains (best sites, prospects for the extension, latest news etc), so I plan to use the main SuperGuide.us for the "Super Guide to .US".

At the same time, with separate subdomains it gives me the versatility to cover all the other ground I wanted as well, i.e. vacation.superguide.us, travel.superguide.us, SanDiego.superguide.us etc.

Right track or wrong turn?

P.S. The guy who has Superguide.com also has the .biz and .info and on the .com he says he wants 6 figures for the three (still must have that 1999 calendar on his wall)!! :)

One thing about your eloquence, is you have an ability to make
something weak into a contender. At first glance, didn't see
much to it, but with the subdomaining, as I have suggested to others, it's works.

You will have captured a lot of space when .us blows up!

Smart!

Ooohh....I think I would prefer a different term than "blows up" - maybe "takes off" or something like that. When an airplane takes off that's good - when it blows up - that's bad! :)

P.S. I would like to have just Guide - that would really make short sweet sub-domains!.

As I have gotten older I have found that "getting big" in life has applied mostly to my waistline.

FunGuide.us is an excellent name for an entertainment and amusement directory. I ran to see if it was available but you already have it - you weasel you! :)

I'm also into "guide" names, mostly .com and.nets though, here are some unregged guides I've come across.

siteguide.us
ezguide.us
searchguide.biz
hotguide.info
hotguide.us
ultimateguide.us
styleguide.info

What i like is the word 'super'. words like 'hot' or 'cool' , etc. may come and go. Trendy today, gone tomorrow. 'Super' is something that will always mean exactly what it does today and did yesterday. SuperGuide is a good combination. .US may play out to be more targeted compared to .com and i can see how this domain name could be used. WIth me, its the question of usability first. How brandable is it? Very. Marketable? Sure. Its not the one word 'guide', but hey, you know what? I have this feeling that in the near future we will see targeted and descriptive domains taking over the generic one words. I somehow see the desirable one word domains getting overhyped and overbloated and the public turning towards 2 word domains for help. Thats just me though. I like .us to begin with. I have several .us domains, latest one being HouseMaids.us and i think .us has a real future going for it, so i give your superguide.us high marks. Its not 'hot' enough to be 'hot', but perhaps its the reason it will never cool down enough to be crap.

P.S. For the record, i do like the word 'Cool' and i think 'CoolHost.com' is... cool

LOL! Thanks, 'Point! :)

Perhaps in securing the ".US" here, you have vision and foresight for which you'll be richly rewarded one day, Duke. Perhaps. Personally, I hope this proves true. For me, though, I would recommend and choose one of the 'Big 3' (.com/.net/.ORG), ONE of which is available at this time of post.
Good Luck.

Very thoughtful post Point. I appreciate your time and insight. Using the descriptive word does give you some extra impact - it's the Super Guide, not just your plain old everyday guide. It's why one of the giant phone company's now brands their yellow pages as the Super Pages. I would still like that one-word Guide though (ast least until your theory becomes reality. :)

Good Luck.

I like .org when it is used well (non-profits and a few for-profits like the medical field) and have had success with the extension. I don't think it works with this purely commercial name though. With the options available today there is no longer any need to settle for mis-matched root words and extensions. Are you still running around in a leisure suit with a 5" wide tie? Times change. It's time to move forward. :)

P.S. Along these lines I have noticed a dramatic change when looking at name availability in the past 6 months. A year ago, you would always see the .com .net and .org taken. Now I repeatedly see the .com taken, with the .info or perhaps the .us also gone while the .net and .org were available but sit there unregged. I have seen so much of this I am convinced of what I noted in the paragraph above, even though a lot of people are unaware of the changing trends.
