Am interested in purchasing a .com name from someone (actually a surname) and offered them some money for it. They declined however.

Any other thoughts on how or what I should offer in order to obtain the name? Keep offering more?

Name expires 2005

You basically have four choices:

1. Keep offering until you find their price. Just about eveyone has a price, but not everyone can afford it. However, the more time you make offers and keep going higher the more desparate they know you are and will hold out for more.

2. Wait until 2005 and hope it doesn't renew AND that you can get it (maybe with the coming WLS).

3. IF the name is being used in bad faith and you have a trademark or reason to believe you can win a dispute, fule a UDRP complaint. This will cost you some $$ even if you lose.

4. Find another name.

I would ask myself and you - How important is the *.com ?

Are the other extensions available ?

If the *.com is the only one you want, then what was the reply to your offer? Did they just say NO or give you a ballpark figure to climb.

I own the lastname .com of a well-known author. Their publisher registered firstname_lastname instead :D
