Hey,

I just wanted to let everyone know that we have opened the doors at
http://www.tbr.ca, the site is in beta stage so their may be some
issues that arise and we'll work to quickly resolve.

Some information on the site, we offer full statistics of each name
that is dropping these statistics currently include:

  • Google Links
  • Number of Google Pages
  • Archived at Archive.org
  • Yahoo pages
  • Yahoo Links
  • Bing Pages
  • whether it has alexa ranking
  • Dmoz Listed
  • Google Page Rank

In the future we will be able to provide more statistics and
suggestions are more then welcome on researchable statistics we could
provide.

Searching

Visitors can search by:

  • Length
  • Number of words in the domain
  • Language, we can detect english, french and bilingual names
  • Any of the stats mentioned above
  • Categories, domains when imported are assigned a category based on
keyword recognition. This will be enhanced and automated as our
keyword database grows. To start categorizing may not be fully
    available.
  • Keywords, keywords that are located within the domain name

Searches can be named and saved to your search filters for use in future drops, eventually it is planned that we would notify you if any domains are dropping that match your criteria in our Featured email each week.

Pricing

Our pricing structure is a minimum of $10 backorder price +
Registration fee of $8.93, making the minimum purchase amount $18.93

Payment Methods
Tbr.ca currently accepts credit card, interac, paypal, moneybookers,
bank transfer and check payment methods.

Bank wire payments incur a $10 processing fee.

Members can also make partial payments from any of the sources above,
meaning if you have cash in your paypal you can use that then pay the
remaining on another payment method.

Payment Plans
We offer an indepth Payment Plan which can be used to differ the
payment into increments for up to 4 months from the purchase date. The
minimum purchase amount for a payment plan is $200.

More information is available on this during the auction and at
checkout, we have included a detailed payment calculator so you can
see the exact breakdown before proceeding.

Bidding Incentives
Currently our auctions are schedule to be held from Wed to Friday
closing from 12pm - 5pm EST, our current policies enable a discount
based on when the winning bid was made. Winning bids placed on Wed
receive a 20% discount on the final purchase price, bids placed on
Thurs incur a 10% discount on the final purchase price, there are no
discounts for bids placed on Fridays.

Bids are defined as either proxy or bids that are made after the
auction has started and backorder bid amounts are exempt from the
discount.

There is more information on this feature
http://www.tbr.ca/terms/earlybidincentive

Open or Closed Auctions?

Our auctions are available to all members of the site, there is a
direct incentive to backordering prior to the auction.

Watchlist

Ever wanted to be kept up to date on an auction/backorder, we have
implemented a watchlist service where you can receive email updates as
the auction progress, or if we are able to backorder the domain.

Bidders who have not backordered the domain prior to it going to
auction are allowed a single binding bid that does not utilize the
proxy bid system.

We feel that this gives a huge benefit to the members that have
backordered the domain with TBR.ca.

Auctions

Our anti sniping rule is if a bid has been made in the last 5 minutes
of an auction the timer is reset to five minutes.

Minimum Bidding Increments are:

Less then $100: $10.00 increments
Less then $500: $25.00 increments
Less then $1,000: $50.00 increments
Less then $5,000: $100.00 increments
Less then $7,500: $250.00 increments
Less then $10,000: $500.00 increments
Less then $1,000,000: $1,000.00 increments

More information on auctions can be found here http://www.tbr.ca/terms/auction/

Invoicing
Our invoices are generated after all auctions have been completed
allowing for multiple purchases to be placed on a single invoice.

DNS Servers
Under your account you have an option to set default DNS servers, once
auctions have been completed and the invoice paid in full, the winning
domains dns servers will be adjusted. This is currently not yet
implemented but should be by next week.

Partnerships

TBR.ca is working on a system to allow current registrars to partner with us to utilize our auction system as well as allowing investors an opportunity to partner with TBR.ca, while remaining able to utilize the site without any unfair advantages. More information on this will be available as we iron out the details, if you are currently running a registrar or may be open to partnering with TBR.ca in the future feel free to shoot me an email and I can pass along the information when it becomes available.

Beta Special

During the beta stages of the site we are covering the registration
fee on all purchases, this discount will be automatically added to all
invoices.

Any questions comments feel free to post them here and I'll try to answer them as thoroughly as possible.

Any bug reports can be sent through the support form or directly to
JBrumwell *@* ReadyNetwork.ca

Best Regards,

Jay

Guys I registered and think you guys have built the best platform that is out there for .ca TBR. And because of all the effort you put it in, I will say my following comment because its meant to be constructive: You will not get much business if you auction the domains that other people TBRed to everyone on your system who likely did not order a certain name. I will never back order a single name from you (unless I know it will get many back order anyways)... why would anyone back order through you and draw attention to the names they back ordered and have other domainers start bidding against them...it makes no sense. I would recommend you turn that feature off and figure out a way to add more "content" ie partner with other registrars or create your own (I am sure there would be lots of willing partners). My two cents...turn that feature off and you will get more business.

Hey Wzhxvy,

Thank you for your comment, this is a concern that we were aware of. Our goal was to create an open auction platform that gives benefits to those who backorder names prior to the drop. This will ensure that the .ca's reach their top monetary value while at the same time giving pre-backorder a strong advantage on the auction.

If you were to decide to not backorder at TBR.c and we were successful in backordering the domain, you are now limited to a single bid at what your valuation of the domain is, pre-ordering allows you to bid throughout the auction and gives you the freedom of proxy bidding.

There is no single platform that is going to please all views of how a backorder auction should be run, but I would be interested in hearing others opinions on the format.

Best Regards,

Jay

Jay,

Thanks for responding...so basically if I back order a name through your service, once you obtain it, I can bid on it as often as I like, and proxy bid. If I dont back order something, but you get the name for someone else, I can only bid on it once.

In effect what you have done, is allowed others who did not back order, to make me pay (more) for a domain that I otherwise would have been able to get at the minimum cost.

A few points:

1. As a TBR service provider its in your interest to raise visibility of the names and the prices, but its not in your customers' interest. Its a balance and IMHO, your feature is too one sided.
2. People who back order .ca are less than 50 people week in and week out in my estimation...by exposing who back ordered what, you can expose people's strategies, niches, etc...and have others basically benefit from their hard work in finding that diamond in the rough

I think you will do better by developing loyality from your customers by getting them those gems for the min and over time, build you volume.

One other suggestion, if you insist on this being the right strategy, is to block the names of the bidders who back ordered these domains...that will at least remove some of the pain away as their names will not be exposed...its become less personal

This is not about the names that are getting multiple bidders. Those names will get action anyways. This is about the names that typically either slip through TBR or get grabbed at Pool for $60 and Siber for $35. .

Hey Wzhxvy,

Not a problem, our mission is to be open and as transparent as possible. You are absolutely correct in your understanding of how the system works. We've gone to great lengths to ensure the properties we grab get the most attention possible and reach their full market value. This of course benefits us but inturn will benefit the entire domaining community, to reach the correct market value for a name it needs to be available to all bidders.

We don't publish anyone's personal information only bidding alias, once the auction is over, for who has backordered a domain. The alias you choose can either repersent an online identity if you don't want totally privacy or can be generic that would create stricter privacy for your backorders.

We do value our customers and believe by having a low minimum backorder amount and features like early bid incentives, payment plans etc.. We are doing our part to build a successful platform for both domainers and ourselves as a business.

Cheers,

Jay

Well I for one am very impressed. I never have played in the TBR; simply went with fresh niche registrations. This system makes it alot easier for me to learn. It saves me a lot of time now I can see the domain statistics and the hot list with all the information in one place. It was actually very interesting to see the auction live too. So now I will use your system more and I thank you for backordering a few domains for me.

TBR.ca is categorizing for you :p We've invested in a 3rd party categorizing system and I've just finished implementing it. It is an automated system so its not perfect but from our testing we believe it will be a benefit for you when researching. Take a peak on the homepage, left hand side. Would love to hear your feedback. Also if there are any categories you think should be there feel welcome to make a suggestion.
