IN A WORLD…where basic facts don’t get in the way of a good narrative.
Ted Cruz has been on a campaign to block the U.S. government from ending its contract related to IANA (domain names and numbers) functions. He has even introduced a bill to block the transition.
Perhaps finding that his message isn’t resonating enough with colleagues and citizens, he has introduced a scary video hammering home his same basic (and incorrect) points:
To be clear: the plan does not give control over to countries like Russia, China and Iran in any way. The only way these countries would get any sway over plans at ICANN would be if they get every other country to go along with them…including the United States. The transition was specifically designed to avoid a United Nations-like control of the IANA functions.
Keep in mind that Cruz is the guy who called net neutrality “Obamacare for the internet.”
(Thanks Michele)

Perhaps finding that his message isn’t resonating enough with colleagues and citizens, he has introduced a scary video hammering home his same basic (and incorrect) points:
- “give away control of the internet to foreign countries”
- “would empower countries like Russia, China and Iran”
- ICANN could put foreign countries in charge of what you can say online
- ICANN could turn into a mini United Nations
To be clear: the plan does not give control over to countries like Russia, China and Iran in any way. The only way these countries would get any sway over plans at ICANN would be if they get every other country to go along with them…including the United States.
