1&1 decided to renew 8 domains of mine AFTER I put in a request (and confirmed) to cancel them.

I just got their response - "you didn't put in a request to cancel them".

Bull, I cancelled them.

Looks like I'm pulling all of my domains and will go with another hosting company then protesting the extra charge on my credit card.

I left 1&1 awhile back. My experience wasn't that poor, but things were never easy. I just figured I would make things easier on myself and go somewhere else. I don't miss the interface or the hoops they force you to jump through.

I can't believe that you would use 1&1. Just read enough things about them before sending any money there way. That said, their New CEO is an awesome guy and I hope he tries to improve the way the company is run -- as a slash and burn operation.

I agree. I left 1&1 before I decided to get into buying and selling. If your hosting a few sites, its mediocre at best, but not for the domainer, IMO.

I've never been too keen on outsourced help.

The I is abysmal, I do admit that.

I went with them because they were the first registrar I dealt with when I started and didn't change until about a year ago when I stared to use GoDaddy.

Ed, They did the same to me a couple of years ago except they had the nerve to put me in collections for their own f***up. After about 2 months I finally got it resolved. There the worst excuse for a registrar that I have ever had to deal with.

Over $300 to transfer to Godaddy an no codes work on transfers. :(

On the phone w/ them now to see if I can get a discount on the transfers. :)

Edit: She couldn't give me a discount. :(

$7.29 .info X3
$6.99 .org X6
$6.99 .net X5

Even the $15 off $75 work. :(

Expect your talk with 1&1 to go along the lines of the Simpson's "Flaming Moe's" episode:

Homer: You just lost yourself a customer!
Moe: Wha? I'm sorry, Homer I couldn't hear you
Homer: I said you just lost yourself a customer!
Moe: Huh?
Homer: You just lost yourself a customer!
Moe: Homer you're going to have to speak up!
Homer: You just lost yourself a customer, Moe!
Moe: I've forced myself to wha?
Homer: You just lost yourself a customer!
Moe: Homer.. I'll talk to you tomorrow!
Homer: You just lost yourself a customer!
Moe: Yeah you can use it!

7 domains have been successfully transferred into my GoDaddy account since I put in the request to have them all transferred out of 1&1. I've never seen them go this quickly.

I just got a "how was the service" link from 1&1. I didn't hold back.

I know I've been an advocate for 1&1 on here but it stopped yesterday. for months I've been canceling 1 or 2 domains a month and many times they didn't cancel, I just thought I forgot to cancel them or didn't click on the confirmation link.

Now I'm trying to back up all my web sites and what do they do? They locked me out of my FTP account.

They said it was something I did, yeah, right, I haven't changed anything and it just stopped in the middle of the transfer.

Tech support was completely useless (let alone I couldn't understand most of what they were saying).

Edit: I also think it is HIGHLY unethical to tell me that I needed to BUY a different FTP client. FTP is FTP and if the one I'm using has been working for over a year...

They just turned off one of my sites that is my wife's business. This is the last site I have hosted with them and I've been waiting for time to get with my wife to move the DNS (since she owns the domain (I just manage it)).

And to think I defended these people. Oh well, we all make mistakes.

1&1 is just like Pinky and the Brain who ruled the world.
Didn't their dads have similar ambitions?
