I just registered possibly the only domain name in the world that won't resolve, and at this current state will never be able to.

I'm not going to list the name; but I thought it was an interesting issue. The domain is in my account at my registrar though i'm not sure what i'm going to do with it. For niche intensive purposes I won't even be releasing any credentials of the name.

This is a TOP LEVEL DOMAIN. I tried to contact the registry, iana, and the registrar but to this point no one has responded. There is a particular reason it won't resolve, but again this goes to the niche credentials that I am not going to release.

Eek!

So why did I register such a name? Well it looked good, but I guess i'm going to try to get a refund now. Will let you know how it turns out - and possibly release the name later!

Was it an "example.tld" domain?

Check the domain via DNSstuff.com
Sometimes registrar (or verisign or ICANN or whoever does that) take domain out of ROOT DNS - simply disables it. Happened to me already several times - reasons: someone complained whois is invalid (not true), someone complained the domain is used for phishing (not true). Enom likes do this shit.

Once Enom even DELETED my domain without informing me, I found it out when I got the domain from Clubdrop (!) and it was already set on my server. Long story, they was even lying about it untill I gave them proof they couldn't deny...
