"What makes this Fabulous.com system so interesting is the speed with which you can close a sale transaction and the amount of sales traffic it can drive by daisy-chaining all the registrars together.. A registrar who has "priced" names, plugged into the Fab system can enable a secure, rate-limited protocol to allow for names to pass instantly to a gaining (purchasing) registrar.. Payment gets cleared automatically behind the curtain, electronically like a NASDAQ market. Name sales are done without people, at pre-set prices. The deals flow as surely as the sun rises. We are talking about selling names which get whois lookups but which draw no traffic and no clicks from a PPC perspective.. Yes, there is a difference and many of those types of names are still "out there" because traditional "domain tasting", which is based on traffic, has not yet revealed them."

what is he trying to say here? about domain dropping? or selling or auctions?

Cool...

Don't forget to check out the comments at Franks site for this article...some pretty good ideas and just good stuff in general to think about.

Peace,
Dan

Now you can take 50,000 names which make less than $6.00 a year on PPC, plug them into this system and generate more than $15,000 a day in domain name sales, based purely on whois look-ups ..

Can't wait to see this in action. But I won't. Because I doubt it exists. Buying based on whois inquiries is not a smart way to buy. This leaves so many gaps and openings and prices may jump, but will certainly crash down if this creates a bubble.

3 years ago there was no way anyone would pay over 12-18 months rev (based on ppc only)

Now what are they up to 48-72 months?

This is just thinking outside the box..... and maybe the room for that matter :)
I'd like to see it in action. I have a bunch of non type-in domains that get whois searches regularly.

It will be hard to conduct your own sale on the forums and auction houses because of the unknown availability of the name. What would happen if you got paid for a name and when you went to push it to another account you found out that the name had just been sold?

I didn't mean that this system doesn't exist. I meant that taking 50k names that earn nothing on PPC and throwing them into a mold to generate sales like that doesn't exist.

And specualting simply on WHOIS history is setting your business up for failure unless you really know what you're doing. And even then, regging screen names (Name plus Numerics) is going to run dry.

I agree, but I guess if you have some VC money to play with you might be more willing to take the gamble.

Lord knows I didn't run to my Moniker acct and bulk reg anything....... yet

I like what I read, it is long overdue, and echoes many comments I have been reading and saying for quite some time. Registrars, parking companies, and ICANN all need a massive enema to flush out their inards. They can not continue to go about "business as usual".

But I really have to see beyond the hype and see this model in action. For us, if successful, it is a win-win-win situation...buyer-seller-speculator.

I think many of these were underpriced, but we are willing to let a few domains go to ensure the network continues to pump out the sales as it grows. As everyone's stock comes into the Domain Distribtution Network there will be less need for me to promote sales and the natural market price for each domain will be apparent. All I can say is that the system is magic. It is a new age - and a new type of gold rush.

Be careful though. Domains can not be included in the network until they can be transferred. That means a 60 days seasoning period for new registrations. Also, domains must be in a Domain Distribution Network certified registrar to be eligible as stock. This is a functional requirement as DDN transactions are real time (a fundamental registrar requirement).

The registrars that can enable the DDN will be announced at TRAFFIC New York. Holding this new market paradigm back now will be like trying to hold back the tide.

Have fun registering and don't get to ahead of yourself. We are here for a good time and a long time.

Cheers,

Dan Warner""

***FS*** I agree Dan, some of those were underpriced.. But others look very similar to names that were "available" yesterday, so that shows the power of your system to put the reach of all domain name registrars (their ability to distribute product) into the hands of the domain owner. The traditional secondary marketplaces have less power today.. This is a big platform shift. The winners are the registrars and anyone who owns a domain name.

The registries and ICANN win too because this is going to kick-up volume even higher.

Thanks for writing Dan
