Hello.
I would like to ask the following question:
How does domain's value diminish according to its tld?
For example, there is some .com domain with great keywords. .net version of this domain will cost %xx percent less than .com, .biz version - %xx percent less than .com etc.

Thanks for help.

It all depends. I think the .coms prices cannot rise that fast. .Net .org .US .Biz and .info are increasing in price faster than .com

Some may have valued the .us at 1% to 10% of the price of an equivalent .com several years ago. Now the .us is moving up.

.org and .net were always priced very high. Maybe about 10% to 35% of the .com version. Every situation is very different. It all depends on the buyers, sellers, who else is in the market, industry, other alternative names etc.

cervantez,

There is no universal formula to estimate a domain name's value based on its
TLD. It's right that the top level domain influences the domain's value though.
I don't need to say that .com is the most valuable extension. Every English
keyword or term should be registered under .com if possible. Registering the
term under another extension will result into a lower value of the domain, but
it's not possible to say "term.net = term.com - term.com/10", etc.

Not every TLD fits to every keyword. For instance, .biz should only be used by
businesses or business-related websites; .info should be registered for websites
which offer information on a specific topic; .net can be used everything Internet-
related...

That's only to talk about gTLDs (generic TLDs). It should be clear that the use
of ccTLDs depends on the domain's language (.de = German domain, .fr = French
domain). A German term domain has got a higher value if registered under
.de rather than under .com, because people in Germany prefer using .de to
.com.

You see, the use of a specific TLD always depends on the domain's keyword.
Try to register .com for English terms and to register other TLDs additionally
if they fit to your domain's keyword. By this way you will achieve the domain's
maximum value.

Here's a short overview:

* .com = every English website; commercial websites
* .net = English websites; tech- & IT-related
* .org = Organizations
* .info = for websites providing information
* .biz = for businesses; no popular TLD though; low value
* .de, .fr, .it, .in, .co.uk, .us = ccTLDs (country code TLDs); use depends on your keyword's language

actually the tld does not "diminish" values

their value is what the domain is sold at!

but i know what you mean :)

Hi Cervantez,

There is no specific formula, my friend.

There are numerous variables that come into play with each domain.

EXPERIENCE, will play a big factor in your ability to look at a domain, whether it is a .com, .net., .biz, .com.uk, etc, and determine a fair price.

Ultimately, the price of any domain, regardless of extension, is determined by the buyer and seller of that specific domain.

And, regardless of your experience, the prices will sometimes surprise you – both to the high side and the low side.

Good luck.

I would guess that mails.com went for over 100K which could give a vague ratio.

I would bet mail.com or mails.com would get much higher than 100K at this point.

It looks like this particular tld was perceived to be worth at least ten to twenty per cent of the .com version.
