Yahoo is planning to lay off hundreds of employees in an effort to increase its profitability, prop up its deflated stock price and narrow the focus of its sprawling Internet portal to a smaller number of crucial areas, people close to the company said Monday.

You're being laid off because our profits wern't high enough and we need our stock prices to rise.

Talk about blatant stock manipulation let alone the lack of karma.

Note: "As a result, Yahoo’s share of the overall online advertising market has declined."

Ergo my previous posts today in another thread about self-development.

This is crazy talk. Why shouldn't employees be fired when times are bad the same way they are hired when times are good? It has nothing to do with karma.

I wouldn't say the internet is falling but it's evolving into something nobody knows with giant corporations buying most of successful startups.

Now is the time to take a step back and evaluate. What exactly is this market, and where is it going? How will/can it evolve? What technology is on the horizon? These are the soul-searching questions that matter. Yahoo is neither here nor there in the scheme of things over a ten-year period.

How many websites do you come across that use a Yahoo YPN ad feed vs. Google Adsense.. no wonder.

Over the longer term, Google and Yahoo advertising income has to be a transient variable.

I agree, layoffs will happen when times are bad, BUT:

Yahoo is planning to lay off hundreds of employees in an effort to increase its profitability,

To increase profitability meaning that they were pulling a profit but wanted to pull more of a profit

prop up its deflated stock price

and to raise the stock prices

If they were losing money and needed to lay off, that's one thing, but their reasoning is whats not sitting right with me.

prop up its deflated stock price

cant yahoo just buy stocks from the stockholders, that would raise the value and they wouldn't have to fire anyone, er I mean layoff.
