Why? I haven't tried them, but their customer support is extremely (Give me your phone number so I can talk to you) happy... kinda scary.

Let me guess, high renewal rates?

Only 5.95 per domain, i've never seen anything like this.
EV1Servers.net (formerly RackShack) went for $5 per name year last year from August to December.

MyValueHost.com still has $4 promo going on (limited to 10 per customer).

Why? Do they spam or charge your cards fraudulently, hound?

They charged me thousands fradulently.
They place perfectly paid for names on registrar hold mysteriously.
Then take 4 months to make them active again. (as recent as 3 days ago this was resolved)
They call you on the phone and solicit you for hosting even if you reg. names elsewhere.
Then when you tell the salesman you need to speak with support and why you hate their company,
they dont want to transfer you to someone that can help resolve outstanding issues with them.
They create hundreds of different accounts for your names and refuse to consolidate them all.
They break promises that they will consolide your accounts.
Their CP is full of bugs.
Their support centers in Greece / Romania, etc. barely speak English.
Upper mangement that had half a brain no longer work there.
They dont sync names that have been transferred away.
I can do this all day, just take advice and stay away from aPlus.net aka Names4Ever.com
I've made a few other posts on this board about them, too.

ammmmm, aplus called me on 2 ocassions to offer me free hosting.
one of them was at 3:30 AM my time.
I happened to be awake, but otherwise, I'd say that was very incensitive.
I posted about it here in the past.

Not the lowest ever, given NameZero.com used to give them for FREE.

Has anyone had a promo where they PAY US to register names, i.e. a negative price?

Sorry to say these jerks are located in the same city that I am.

They used to call (from the WHOIS data) as much as 3 times a day. "I see you just bought domain.com, and we're local to you, do you need hosting?" I've told them to take me OFF their call list forever. That stopped them for a while.... then yesterday they called again. I told them that my number is on their DO NOT CALL list *and* on the national DO NOT CALL list, so the next time the call I will sue them. We'll see if that works.

that works great for YOU.
I am *presently* not in the US (although I have a US based office).
Now, calling me at 3:30 AM is one thing, telling BS is another.
BUT, can anything be done about this???

Never be taken by unbelievably cheap offers and do not give away your credit card info if you are not sure that the registry can be trusted. Once they have your CC info, they can easily charge you fraudulently if they want to. If you have to use your CC, stick to one card, preferably with a minimum limit and keep track of your use. In this way, you can avoid or minimise loses due to CC fraud.

LOL

Telemarketing at 3:30 AM? I am sure that flies well.

Jeez.

Did they call you US number and it terminated at your Greek number, or something?
