I kind of want this to be a thread where we can give tips and exchange thoughts on the market or individual stocks. I domain full time and have recently started day trading with my focus being on Chinese stocks traded on the US markets. One stock that I think is going to take off soon is AMEX:SVA (yes I do own some)... I wanted to know your thoughts on this particular stocks or have some hot stocks that you may suggest. I really like OTC stocks and small cap companies.. the risk keeps me warm during these winter months :D.... hope we can exchange info together and maybe gets some good buys and sells in while at it.

Thanks

Well Google has been good to us since the IPO :)

EWZ - Brazil ETF (good entry point with recent market downturn)
VCLK - buyout candidate but has strong value with no buyout
VION - my best idea for a speculative biotech small cap stock - very much under the radar (filing for new drug app in 2008)

approx. prices at time of my post - Goog -$658, VCLK - $20.92, EWZ - $73, VION - $0.64

My 2 best suggestions at this point is ENER and YHOO. They are both down now but they are almost a sure bet (if there's such a thing in the mkt) of going back up at least 5 points plus each within a short time (maybe 3-4 months) IF the mkt does turn up and level off from the correction it just entered.

I would be very careful of the mkt in general at this time....but if you're just daytrading (long and short) you can make some good bucks in this mkt....who do you trade with if you don't mind my asking?

I use eTrade. I like their service. Agree with YHOO, I have my eye on then. I personally think it's the biggest sleeper out on the market. On paper with its P/E it doesn't look all that impressive, but also has to see that is also concentrating tons of energy both on Japan via yahoo japan and it has considerable interest in Alibaba Group. I feel its going to go down a bit up to and maybe through the holidays, so I'm waiting before jumping in. Time will tell what baby google will do.

alright... I think I finally have a solid group of OTC and small cap stocks for the high risk section of my portfolio. Let me know what you guys think. Any kind of advise or TIP is appreciated. I do have one question of you though... what percentage of your portfolio is invested in higher risk securities? Thanks!

i've got about 10% in high risk securities, but wouldn't mind increasing that to say 25%.

been aggressively investing in metals and natural gas over the past 3 years. also like the yahoo play, but man that stock has been stagnant for a while now. played the chinese search engines back when they were in the single digits and look at them now. left so much money on the table that it was kind of the end of my day trading - now i like to think of myself as more of a swing trader. 3 months to a year or 2 is my typical horizon.

Why don't you include Tucows Inc. in that list? Ticker is TCX. They are profitable and completely undervalued.

I considered that but I don't have any confidence for the people at the healm. Now when NameMedia gets on board, I am definitely going to add them to my portfolio. There board/leadership is stacked with proven talent.

Hey X
I focus mainly on TA, FA really doesnt have any relevance for short term traders. Having said that, I would caution you on OTC and BB stocks, after all they are traded there for a reason :)
I took a look at your list:
SVA
JRJC
PACT
GRRF
EWZ
LOOP
HRBN
VION

Technically speaking, they are all in longer term downtrends. There are so many stocks to choose from every day that it really pays to be picky. If you want to trade stocks long (buy) then look for stocks in uptrends. Stocks in downtrends are best left alone or sold short.

We have about 10-20% (at times) in what I would consider higher risk stocks (currently just VION at moment).

By the way - I wouldn't consider EWZ (Brazil) high-risk rather as one of the most solid producing ETFs there is - over 7 billion in net assets. We are up around 100% on our original EWZ position in about a years time (went up over 7% today with the market rebound). 3-4% daily swings in EWZ is commonplace.
http://finance.yahoo.com/etf/browser/mkt?k=8&c=0&f=0 shows top 1 year etfs . I've had some success trading that one but always keep a position maintained in it. I almost look forward to pullbacks when we have extra $$$ available to re-invest in EWZ.

5 year chart for EWZ - http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=EWZ&t=5y&l=on&z=m&q=l&c= :) no downtrend there!

anybody watching ENER? Its gained about 3 points or so since I called it last week....I should have mentioned tho, it is a cult stock and it does have these up and down swings from time to time.

The way I play it is by watching it carefully and buying in when it looks to be on the low side....if there is no really bad news thats effecting its value. The only problem is knowing when to sell it...it can drop just as fast as it went up with no news or obvious reason at all....be careful.

Current prices at this time - live quote

GOOG - $713.57
EWZ - $85.95
VCLK - $23.68
VION - $0.87 (thats 36% up in just over a week ..... under radar still)

Hopefully you bought VION and if you want to - you could sell your initial investment and let the rest ride. That depends on your investment style/strategy. Every small biotech is risky but I personally have strong belief in VION - I'm letting it all ride. Invest at your own risk!

VION is rising but in April of this year it was almost $2 bucks a share.

Why stick to penny stocks?

Try ELMG. 100% up since May, now trading at $32.8*

Ummm...... VION is the only speculative stock we have in our portfolio. You are right about it being at $2.00 than a major drop occured when a phase III trial was "put on hold". If you do research - you may see what the possibilities for the reason of the "on hold status" - which is not necessarily a bad reason (though Mr. Market felt differently). New trials have also started for their lead Leukemia(AML)/cancer drug Cloretazine - many more will occur.

The extrememly positive phase II results (just released this weekend) have led the company to begin the process of filing a new Drug App targeting AML - an "unmet" need that the FDA has put on Fast Track Status. This is only one potential application for the drug.

From - http://www.streetinsider.com/Press+...s+Leukemia+at+ASH+Annual+Meeting/3184881.html - "Dr. Gary Schiller, Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and a lead investigator on the study, said "The activity demonstrated in this trial appears to confirm the strong signal observed in the first Phase II study of Cloretazine(R) (VNP40101M) in this population. This single agent, single infusion therapy, has the potential to be an important new treatment option for older patients with poor-risk AML."

I've invested in VION because I feel Cloretazine is a potential blockbuster drug which has shown very positive data in trials for a number of applications. Other pipeline drugs are there as well. The company has also hired BIG Pharma execs (from Bayer, Pfizer, etc...) who have strong track records and aren't joining VION to waste their time - they have the same belief in the company as myself. As I said VION is under the radar (at $0.95) at moment (live trades).

YHOO....more recent talk about a possible yahoo/microsoft merger could send this stock up 3 or 4 (maybe more) points in the near future. Its way oversold imho.
