Dear Fellow Members and Domainers,

Since there seems to be considerable interest in the topic, I am considering writing an article for the DNJournal during the next couple weeks on the history, development, distinguishing characteristics, and distinguishing characters of two domain forums (this one and another one). I am thinking of a title/theme of: "The Two Forums: Colleagues, Competitors, or Both?"

My thoughts are to do some research and solicit perspectives, run a draft of it by the mods/owners of both places in the interest of accuracy and balance, revise, and then submit it to the relentlessly demanding and ruthless editor of DNJournal, the Duke.

Your comments, perspectives, and suggestions (e.g. Dome, are you crazy?) by PM or here are welcome [at least until my PM box fills up :) ]

I only have two questions:

1. Are you crazy?

2. Are you sure this picture you submitted of Mr. Ricks is really him? If so, could you elaborate on the origin of the horns and pitchfork?

J/K of course (but I don't want to be out of fashion by failing to bash Greg at every opportunity :)). I am sure with your research skills as a university professor, we can count on you for an unbiased account. I don't want to put any undue pressure on you, but keep in mind that we all know where you live. :)

Great idea, should provide some very interesting reading.

BTW... after reading many of your posts, I'm astounded how closely your avatar matches you dnforum personality. It's scary, but you ARE Ned Flanders! (and yes I'm probably stating the obvious)

Please read my post from today: Hatfields vs McCoys in the platinum section for an interesting observation.

I read your post and it was one of the things that made me think about some of the differences.

Concerning my avatar, perhaps, but don't forget that one Simpson episode with Homer's "soul doughnut" when Ned turned out to be.. well... not entirely nice. Having said that, I will try to be on good behavior when writing this piece. :)

Not to slight you Dome. I do respect your collegial manner, but I don't see any purpose in writing an article about the two forums. One was already done in the last DNJournal (well, kind of). I think it would dilute DNJournal in that they need NEW stuff that is interesting and predictive in nature. There are a lot of articles that you could write. Maybe one on "Domebase.com". Why did you start this website. What's it's purpose. I've really wanted to know this info, but never got around to asking you.

You were a leading proponent of the "Domebase Solution"... What was that solution, and how could it have saved the .info fiasco. How would it save future rollouts. Should there be new rollouts given the fact Afilias and in some respect dot biz does not advertise. THIS is the kind of stuff DNJournal should be going after.

If you still plan to go through with it, I would wait awhile. At least until both have a year under their belts (w/new mgmt)....

Dear Folks,

This afternoon I thought this would be a good idea, but based on the wise feedback of others I realize that this is too tough a thing to do and too sensitive a topic... and that I was thinking too highly of myself to think that I could do such a thing in a balanced manner that would have constructive effects. So I will drop this idea. I apologize to Duke and others for taking up time and stirring up any trouble. Some time I will write a piece for the DNJournal on a less controversial topic.

Thanks for your gracious response and good advice Izopod.
Maybe I will tackle some of these issues in a DNJournal piece.

I'm dead serious about having you write an article about "Domebase.com". Here is some possible snippets from a hypothetical interview:

DNJ: I've got the impression from visiting your site that you would be considered a "fan" of dot info???

Dome: Oh, no. Ah shucks. I guess you could consider me a disinterested third party when it comes to that dot info stuff.

DNJ: O.k Now onto some really hard hitting, probing questions. I heard you were offered 15K for Star.info, but turned it down because you thought the price was too high. You actually countered with 4K. Sometimes I think you are Ned Flanders, Dome. Care to comment about all this?

Dome: I think I've become Ned Flanders. The avatar thing was just a rouse, but now it's become more than that. I am a "Ned Flanders Groupie".

DNJ: Seriously. Who is Domebase?

Dome: I'm not sure anymore. I play a doctor at school, a cheepskate on a free forum, and am Ned Flanders most of the other time. However my wife will tell you that she likes me as Dr Connor the best. It pays much better!!!

DNJ: That is fascinating Dome. I think we're all done here.

Dome: It's been a pleasure.

LOL Izopod  could not have given a more accurate interview myself!
