Hi there,

In allmost all sales threads you see people posting the number of "Google Links" for the domain they want to sell nowadays.

Recently I saw the domain "easier.us" for sale advertising something like 11,400,000 "Google Links".

When I type "easier.us" in Google, I get a mere 405 links, when I type "easier" I get the mentioned 11,400,000 "Google Links". Yet, these links have got NOTHING to do with the domain mentioned. It's like saying "this 'word' has occurred 11,400,000 times in all books in the world".

So is there really a value to this all? When I type "Porn" in google, I get about 67,000,00 "Google Links" (most probably Google just won't return any more hits), but I think the domain "porn.us" is worth more then 7 times "easier.us". :)

How should I read this "Google Link"-number?

I guess, this 'google-link-count' shall demonstrate
the popularity of the word without the TLD
extension. The idea is, that if you have the
domain, you can exploit the small ranking advantage
google gives domainnames that contain the word
searched. However there are rumours that not
only *all TLDs* are considered equal but even 3rd-level subdomain words get the same bonus.

I'd call a 'link:www.domain.com'-result a true
'google-link-count'.

The value of google links is that it is a measure of how generic or popular the word or phase is.

One important consideration is when measuring phrases the correct way to do it is using quotes in the search

for example "free email"

Some people are mistaking Google results for links. When you type a word or phrase in quotes into Google, the number displayed is how many times Google has found that word or phrase out of the 3 billion web pages it has searched.

This is totally different from link popularity. To check Google links, use a site such as marketleap.com:
http://www.marketleap.com/publinkpop/

There you will find easier.us has no links in Google, or any other search engine.

You can also check this out directly at the search engine you're interested in by typing into the search box link:yourdomain.com... for example:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=link:www.dnforum.com&btnG=Google+Search

Yes Tino, you are correct Google links have nothing to do with popularity in relation to SEARCH of a word, has zero relevance to whether a domain has any value,it simply shows how many times the word has shown up. As you have pointed out "It's like saying "this 'word' has occurred 11,400,000 times in all books in the world".

Overtures inventory is much more relevant to a domains potential value because those results = actual SEARCHES for that particular word or phrase.
It represents a rough idea of how large a potential market is.
