thanks for the link tony...great pick-up for TZ. This acquisition will add many more tools to their already large tool base.

"Thought Convergence", someone should have put a little more thought into their brand name selection. It's actually worse than Oversee.net. :D

Mergers are never good for the industry. They create single points of authority (hence the "convergence" part) and stifle competition.

this acquisition might actually be good for us. We all (or most of us) hate how Jay sells our private information out(to IP lawyers for example)... I despise Name Intelligence's business ethics (If such a statement can be made, because they have no business ethics)

In my mind, there is a slight chance that TZ bought it to protect their customers(and theirselves) from lawsuits, and in the long term this acquisition might save them some serious money

Good points. We'll soon see if there is any substance to them, ie, if they withdraw some of those (dis)services.

maybe a collective appeal from all of us(TZ current/future clients) may influence them to remove some services that harm all of us, even if this wasn't in their plans.

Or maybe I'm just being naive

Unfortunately it probably depends on how much money they make from it. Owning it is enough to protect their own assets anyways.

You F-ing wish, mate...
I get the feeling that one of Domain Tools' biggest cash cows was its reverse lookup database that it sold out to lawyers, etc...

My money is that RIAA and it's overseas counterparts are going to get nice and comfortable with this new ownership arrangement and start taking down a lot of warez domainers.

AFTER that, you can also expect to start hearing from cashed up spammers, because I can guarantee that while you may be using privacy protection now, you probably forgot to once upon a time.

Interesting merger. Wake me up when they go public.
