DomainGang reported that the domain Tilt.com is a stolen domain. The domain name is now in the hands of an intermediary law firm to handle all future disputes over the name.

The thief used a very easy tactic to get their hands on it.

They were able to identify that Tilt.com was owned by a registrant using the Crowdtilt.com domain. As such, they gained access to that domain by paying $17,000 to acquire it. Now, with access to Crowdtilt.com, they only needed to go to the registrar that Tilt.com was at and either request a new password or use some other social engineering tactic.

You can protect your intellectual property by ensuring that you are always on top of who, or what email, owns your names and ensure that you have absolute control over it.

Another way to protect your domains is to also watch for changes in the whois so that you are always in the know of what is going on with your domains.

It's amazing how many emails I get for social media accounts and even more important accounts that the previous registrant is still using even though they no longer own the domain with the registered email account. Catch all email is certainly an eye opener.
