I follow the Domain Market in the past couple of months and I am very surprised that the pricing has been down significantly - may be back to a couple of years ago. The past TRAFFIC auction clearly show the down trend - not too much going in the live auction and less than 100 names sold in the extended auction out of 5,000 with ridiculous prices.

The question is "Who drive the price down" - We all are.
The word "recession" has been the keyword and every where you go you see companies cut jobs, newspapers companies fold up, etc....

I agree that all business sectors are effected by the recession but the Domain Market is a unique market and should not follow the rest of the market:
- Internet Marketing is still the best effective mean to advertise compare to Media (radio, newspapers, flyers, etc...)
- There are still a large percentage of businesses that do not understand the importance of their presence on the internet
- When you buy any product you do have a choice and the quantity can be reproduced. This is not the case for the Domain Business. When you want a name, you want a name - There is no substitute!!!!

The big boys do see the problems among the Resellers and they have been buying like crazy to stock them up. You can look around and see, I don't need to convince you on this point.

So what should we do?
- Reach out to educate and find end users
- Stop selling at the ridiculous price - What do you have to lose but $10 registration fees!

The Domain Market should bound back shortly after we are all realized that we have been giving the store away because you have been feeding the wrong information.

Good luck to all.

John

Note: This is only my own observation - My comments are for the market as a whole. There is no intention to point to any individual or company. Just thought that we should all wake up and take control the market so we can all make profit.

Find end-users? That's a ridiculous idea. Domains are worthless and should be given away for free. In fact, every newborn should be entitled to a free .com from the maternity ward.

Domain market is struggling as end users may not be able to spend money as much as before. Many small businesses are going bankrupt and even big companies are reducing their work load to compensate the losses.

Domainers therefore could not afford the domains like before because of less money from the domain sales which again due to struggling end users. Therefore the price of average domains go down.

i don't see it as prices being down, it's just that sellers are just accepting less

remember a domain is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it and many domains were highly overpriced or had inflated prices to begin with.

sellers are looking to liquidate, just like other markets...which may cause holders of domains, property, stock, bonds, etc. to sell at a lower roi, than originally anticipated.

they don't wanna get stuck holding something that isn't moving, they can't move or will take too long to move, which is risking their income flow.

you'll find that those who don't have cash flow problems are holding firm on pricing, if they haven't raised them! :)

imo...

Agree, I made this same point in other threads.

From what I can see, End user sales still remain strong... It's the reseller market that's really suffering... And it doesn't look like its going to rebound unless the economy improves.

If you have cash, now is the time to buy.

As for domain auctions; I wouldn't be listing them until the reseller market improves, Why run the risk of selling your domain for pennies on the dollar.

Cash flow not going your way Johnn? .. Nah, just yanking your chain .. :)

What about us poor IDNers? You think you got it bad .. sheesh ..

Oh, 下载.cn just sold for $5k today (Can be seen HERE) .. not bad for a couple of random-line-squiggle-things .. with a .cn ccTLD in front to boot!
(My opinion? Buyer got a real bargain)

What IS the world coming to?

No need to take any action. The domain market will correct itself along with other markets. Domainers are a very enthusiastic and optimistic kind IMHO, so the domain market will recover long before other global financial markets will.

Take a look at Namebio.com/Dnsaleprice.com and compare prices in May to the ones in Feb/Mar/Apr, we are already on our way to recovery, the prices are going up again.

If anyone here is able to buy an LLL.com for $3k or less in a Sedo, Snapnames, Namejet or Afternic public auction in the next week (like you could in March/April), I will send $100 to that person's PayPal (you must be able to document the purchase of course). :)

My $0.02.

I hate to be pessimistic on this subject, But were living in uncertain times right now, and as a result, domain investors have pulled back.... The recession were in is only getting worse and until the economy turns around, I don't see the reseller market recovering.

Reseller market is like the washer machine... Just goes round and round. The end users are the gold mines, so get off your a$$es or better yet, remove your fingers from the keyboard and focus on the phone and start calling people. Simple as that!

Carrying this message on the forum -

Where are the end users here???

They are on the line waiting for your presence!

The trick is the selling point, let em know what they are missing.. If they continue to balk, then tell em that you are moving on and go to the next potential buyer!

I believe in you! They should be entitled to their name dot com.. BAM!

Just a quick note... End users aren't on the forums waiting on you!

The end users are the gold mines

We can all agree on that.

The only fear I have with contacting end users is the TM issue.... I'm afraid if I solicit a domain that has several TM's, it would open a can of worms.

Ok, so most places won't even know where to begin to file. Work it in your favor. I'll email you a little dialogue that seems to work for me that I use when on the phone.

Can of worms equal money too!

I like that idea. How do we start?

Keep an eye on the baby announcements and get the hospital to RSS feed you the daily intakes
