some of you may have heard me mention my dad was in talks for his own tv show with the discovery channel recently.

well he found out this week he got it :)

It will be a DIY show where he shows you how to build very nice furniture using stuff from scrap yards/ demolished houses / even stuff people chuck in their skips. the show will be a 'manly mans' diy show and will involve chainsaws, welding, lots of burning stuff, sandblasting and other things that would have charlie dimmock and that laurence lllowyn running for the hills.

filming starts on it in september.

expect it to be on discovery home and leisure satellite channel by next january.

also if anyone happens to be passing through southend high street his shop tinkers basket is about 100 yards down the last road intersecting the high street before you reach the sea front. might be a chance to buy some of his furniture before he becomes famous and the prices rocket :D

its quite funny you mentioned shedheads wilc because i was talking to my dad this morning and he told me that he originally gained the attention of the tv company when he did a screen test for shedheads.

perhaps even more funny is the guy with dark hair who presents it (and says basically waaaaaaay too often) is actually a friend of my dads who my dad took along with him for the screen test because he knew they wanted two presenters (he didnt know at the time but they already had a deal with the other presenter otherwise he would have gone on his own) but it turns out that it was my dad that got him the job (by taking him along) and to cap it all off discovery actually called the tv company (attaboy in case you havent pitched to them yet :) ) back to say they wished that they had picked my dad instead because his mate (ricky tate i think his name is) was a little boring.

Terrific Cig, Congratulations to your Dad,

Our Garage is a story and a half, the upper half was a hay loft, because the bottom half was originally a horse stable ..! The house was built in 1916, I have redone all the hardwood floors..but still have to do something witht the garage

I want to get rid of it and put in a nice double car garage but wearent sure what to do with it yet, It has some great old wood in it. perfect for crafts, furnture ... sounds like something right up your Dads endevors...

I'd like to just give it away if they would also clear the old foundation..is there a directory for people that do things like this.

Does your Dad have a schedule yet what nights his show will be on? When will they start filming?

filming in september, screens most likely in the new january season next year.

not sure if it will be syndicated to discovery H&L in the states but i'm working on getting a divx/quicktime copy of the pilot to put on his site for people to see but its all red tape and that kind of junk so might take a while.

Hey Cig, can you give me a PM when it starts showing, I'll look for it..we already get a bunch of UK shows on discovery like the battlebots, JunkYard wars...an old favorite now, the antique one where the "contestants" buy stuff and then they are taken to a real auction, then teams "stuff" that sales for the most wins, and a a couple of home repair and designer shows.. so I'll bet we just may see get it..

anyway congrats..

yes the guys at attaboy owe me a pint as they advertised for people on readersheds.co.uk . and picked jazzy lily..

i have just watched the repeats of shedheads and my wife who is not a lover of sheds (really) said that it was crap, i wont go that far, but its not "what it said on the tin". ie making sheds, they use expensive kits, and when was a Geodesic Dome and the Greek temple painting studio a shed, !!, its a bit jamie oliver for my liking..

sorry for the rant CIQ, good luck to your dad and maybe we can get him a readersheds tshirt/apron to wear on the show!!

whats his site.maybe he can syndicate stuff to us..,

nice one

don't worry my dad has the same stance as you on shedheads. he is glad he didnt do it as he would have had to play down his personality to fit the 'bland' format so if he were to make a new show he couldnt really re-invent himself as a character as people would think he was a knobend :))) this way the show is his so he can be himself. still trying to figure out a way of getting his pilot from video to pc but if i can i might setup an underground download site for people to have a sneak peek. (just dont tell attaboy :) )

as for the site its in the works... muggins here has the dubious honour of being the appointed webmaster (no talk of any money yet though). and it will probably be an 'unofficial' site as discovery said they dont do websites for a show until they know it will run to a second series as its not worth their outlay on the design if the show goes under.
