Hi, Domainers

Here's an idea for a new DNForum section that I just emailed Adam about. Ultimately it's his call. But I figured I could ask the rest of you on here whether this would be beneficial or a waste of time.

----------------------------------------

DNForum has an "Appraisals" section, which benefits people already. I'd like to propose a new section for "Drop Advice" where people could list a group of domains from their portfolio that are expiring and ask for Yes/No feedback about which ones to drop. There would have to be a courtesy rule about a maximum number of domains to ask about and perhaps some guidelines about how to mark them as Keepers / Drops.

I think people would use this, and it would help the domaining community. That's all.

Here's an example, in case I was unclear:

Hi, I'm NaiveDomainer. Which of these domains should I renew, and which should I let go next month?

ewohwfeho.com

Horses.org
SecondChances.org

Yes Horses.org
Maybe SecondChances.org

you don't need a special or additional section for that

all the OP has to do is ask same question (whether to drop or not) for the names they are seeking appraisals for.

Of course, you're right that it can work that way. But appraisals and drop recommendations are quite distinct from each other, as tasks/requests go. If not separated, the responses could get mixed up. And some people might be interested only in submitting / responding to / viewing appraisal queries -- or only in viewing potential drops.

There's a side-benefit to separating the two groups as well. People who ask for appraisals tend to be ambitious in terms of price and less willing to sell, whereas people who are openly considering dropping domains might be more approachable from a sales standpoint. There would undoubtedly be some domain vultures who'd give disingenuous advice in order to acquire some domains. But there could also be more win-win transactions as a result. Or just profitable discussion about evaluating domains.

I'm not married to this idea. Just thinking aloud.
