I am a part time domainer and am thinking of starting a domain forum which is mainly for selling and buying domains without a lot of rules imposed on.

Do you think I should start or a bit too late to do so?

If you are part time domainer, then why you start a domain forum? Do you have enough time and weight to rule your members? Why would people join your forum?

Frankly, I don't think another domain forum would get many members. We already have three large forums (DNF, DS, NP) and a few private ones.

Even if it was about buying and selling only, it would be little different from domain marketplaces with public domain listings.

Your time and energy would probably be better spent on more promising projects.

To be honest, I like to post some of my domains which I could create threads or blogs completely under my control.

I am thinking between a blog and a forum.

We tend to focus on maximum 2-3 domain forums but to get maximum exposure to their domains, we do try to post for sale in many other forums...

After being a vintage in one / two forum, it gets difficult to migrate to other forum and chances of old domainers moving to new forums is minimum.

The only market i can see is new domainers / users ...

I do not think that will be uch of an effort UNLESS
it is just not forum but other stuff too like SEO related tools and articles..

I have an idea of how to get visitors searching for domains on daily basis. I think may be I could get hundreds of visitors per day if what I think will work and hopefully will get some new sign ups per day.

May be a forum is a bit too much time consuming than a blog.

Because I have

D n S u p e r m a r k e t .c o m

&

D o m a i n s z . com

I like to use any of them as the first one has been sitting for long time without any development.

Even I have been sitting for abotu an year for few of my domains too :)):))
The only concern is will it be worth?
Will there be controls? See the MODs here, Admins, Policies..
I as a buyer and Seller, should have the comfort factor.

Will you buy and discuss a $5000 mobile phone on a site which the world is not aware about?

Best way to approach is to start with articles and letters...
In a time frame of a year or more, start with a forum with only sticky type posts and may be only showcase posts///

later about 2-3 years, go ahead with the facts whether it is worth and safe enough to go ahead with the sales threads..

I too have kept few domains like DNThread.com, NameSitePros.com, DN2X.com etc ..
"But " is the word that is holding me ... :)

To do or not to do, always depend on your decision. Maybe you are hesitated because you doubted that you are to reinvent the wheel when DNforum is already a robust and popular domain forum. Maybe once you decide to create your own business of domain forum and make it more popular.

Blogging is easy and can be done in your spare time. Managing an online community is a 24-hour job.

one thing you don't do is come here and try to build interest in another domain forum or make any insinuations about how this forum is ran.

your past criticisms of this forum, complaints about staff and how it is being managed are all negative influences.

if you want out, then leave and start you own, but don't recruit here.
